The Brighton Belle

I remember as a tiny 4 year old going into London Victoria from Sole St and we saw them just before they were gone forever, also a rare sight of a German train was in at platform 2 for the night ferry and that was the year I saw the LT farewell Pannier tank make its journey and the last steam train to go through London Bridge to Cannon St with special running permission for a charter. 71 was a damned good year for train stuff, even some of the EPB's and 4SUB's had their green livery, and the day of the steam thru London Bridge my dad took us over to Tooley St signal box fed tea and biscuits as he talked to his mates there and then a walk to Borough Market signal box for more tea and biscuits while adults talked stuff :D

I lived in Brighton in the early 70s when the London express trains had buffet cars, sadly I never rode the Belle when it was running as I started living in Brighton a couple of months after the service stopped. The train could be seen in the sidings as you left Brighton station.
