FCF has changed the traditional way in which ML’s are now employed. It’s also within a much changed 3Cdo Bde RM. Their skill set is now even more diverse, a fantastic asset to have👍

A bloke I climbed with, joined the marines as an officer. He was a lovely unassuming chap, one of those guys that was good at everything , just a machine, that’s before he even joined the cadre. I bumped into him in Glasgow a-few years after he had joined. He had actually changed shape, stood in front of me was this broad shouldered, square jawed, tanned, hard looking bloke. Still a fabulous fella, he now is a chief executive, actively involved in the development of a Northern town.

There seems to be a constant ridiculous need to compare and contrast in a pointless search for the most elite, best, toughest group, I’d say any individual who can deal with one hard task after another is likely to be able to train and pass almost any special forces course they do. So it’s like saying which football team is the best..on the day, who knows who wins.

Ask any Bootneck about mountain training with the Cadre, which is usually a prerequisite for a winter in Norway. Most of my Troop Sergeants were ML 1. It’s pretty obvious that the ML course attracts a certain type of mindset and character, which makes for a very unique sense of humour. It is an extremely capable unit that is the pride of the Corp. I was in SBS Sigs Tp. If the Marines are tier 2, does that make me a tier 1.5. It’s all laughable. ML’s are a quietly confident, no nonsense, ultra professional, and unassuming bunch who don’t care about plaudits or titles that affirm what they already know. We have UKSF units and everything else is a support, or a unique role for their skill set, such as artillery, infantry, and tank regiments. The only thing that is confirmed and beyond question is the ML’s droll, sarcastic, and sadistic humour, which is something you either get and appreciate, or don’t, and hate it. It’s the former for me, especially if you are observing it from a non victim perspective 😂. 🍻🎂🍷🎂🥃🎂🍸🍹🎂🍺🎂🥂🎂🍾🎂 Happy birthday, Corp.

Although dated, there's a good documentary called 'Behind The Lines', which covers the ML course from strat to finish. If you were anything more than an internet know it all that's thinks nothing matters or does anything outside of the avengers (tier 1) ...who by the way aren't doing anything kenetic then you'd know about the above and realise it comes down to command as to who gets what jobs when, not tiers.....
