I love the classification, "Old Catholic ". I'm going to borrow it from you as I had been fishing for something to explain myself. I just sent the storm related prayers from the 1662 BCP to a young friend who is a seminarian discerning priesthood in the ACNA to beef up "Occasional Prayer #26" in his prayer book. I've got a shelf full of BCPs! Yes, I'm an old man and a book geek. I follow you faithfully although I tend to be lazily reticent. But, most of all, Dale, thank you for introducing me to the AOB. It's my best buddy! Yes, it's lacking storm prayers from 17th Century sailors and I do wish it had a list of the proper Gospels and Epistles for Sundays as they are reflected in the antiphons, etc. but that is a minor inconvenience....I've got a handy "pocket-'28"! God Bless You, my Friend. Wayne

I should have explained that I live in E. Tennessee....storm prayers are very much on our heats and minds just now. It has been apocalyptic!

@waynebean1521 I'm glad to read your comment, which is very encouraging. Perhaps some of the prayers 0n pp[15]-[16] of the AOB might be useful for your purposes. Folks should have been praying For Weather earlier.

@waynebean1521 Nearly Noatic. When I was studying at Sewanee, I liked to watch the big storms gather over the mountains to the east. They were just babies, and still impressive.

Yep, the Benedictine Prayer is what Christian Prayer out to have been, more or less. Even though I really like the Anglican Breviary and the Anglican Office Book, I like Benedictine Prayer enough to have a copy handy. I can use it if I want to read two Offices of Readings in one day. Thanks for posting this video.

As far as prayer rules go, I'm extremely fond of my copy of the Monastic Diurnal, which I ordered from and had blessed by the monks of Our Lady of Clear Creek Abbey.

@justafrog5641 I have fond memories of a visit to Clear Creek Abbey. In August. A month with great feasts and, in Oklahoma, great heat.

@@dalecaldwell I haven't been able to make it out there. I've been loosely planning a spring road trip to a few different monasteries, probably in 2026. I'll try to remember to dress for the heat!

Thanks for the video I use the Benedictine Daily Prayer. I like it. I also use 28 BCP Lectionary readings each day.

As someone with a MA in History and teaches it professionally. I do think Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door. Like you mentioned, the church doors were like bulletin boards back then. I think many historians would like to say it didn’t actually happen only because it isn’t this vandalistic or dramatic concept many assume it to be

Coincidentally, your video dovetails nicely with a book that I am completing reading -- Thomas Merton's "The Seven Story Mountain." In this "autobiography of faith," Merton first believes he has a vocation to the Franciscans, but then does an about face, and eventually enters a Cistercian (Trappist) monastery in Kentucky at the outset of WWII. He writes of his anguish in deciding, first, if he had a vocation. . . Then, in which direction to go (Franciscan/Cistercian). . . The book underscores some of the points you make here on Catholic orders --- "so many to decide upon. . . so little time." . . . . . . As always, thank you, Dale. . . P.S. As a man of letters, do you enjoy reading Merton? . . if so, anything else of his that you would recommend to read?

It's probably the most accessible version of the traditional Benedictine office. I prayed it for several years when I lived in Arkansas, but in my old age, I have become lazy, and I gave it to a young aspiring-to-be seminarian.

Does the _Anglican Breviary_ use the Coverdale Psalter or the King James Version of the Psalms? Having seen photos of the _Anglican Breviary_ it seems a very handsome book, which matters.
