After reading all the philosophically delicious chapters of TBK, the courtroom drama one comes across by the end of this book is definitely "cherry on the cake"...the brilliance of dostoyevksy's writing as a psychologist is especially reflected in that final part.

Hi Carolyn! I just wanted to say thank you for looking out for the rest of us curly girls. I am the eldest sister with curly/ wavy hair and my mum has a different hair texture than me, so I’ve had zero guidance of how to take care of my hair (other than watching KZbin) and plenty of low-key trauma with my mum trying to brush through my hair, bad haircuts and straightening my hair to death (after growing up in the 2000s where straight hair was all the rage). It made me really happy to hear you say you wanted to give product recommendations for those who didn’t have anyone to teach them! Thank you so much!

Just as Lexie Reed said, loving the switch up with monthly faves and the book you are currently reading. Especially when it's such a massive classic like Karamazov! I ended up the same this past month too with reading 1500pgs of Les Miserables 😅

when you talked about the affects of Brothers Karazamov i thought of book that made me explore my opinions as well. It's called The Incorrigible Optimists Club by Jean-Michel Guenassia. The author also wrote second book, and I fell in love with that one even more.

I have those bike shorts too and they are a game changer with the pockets. I wear them to dance class and put my phone in the pocket and then wear a breezier pair of shorts overtop to conceal that I have my phone on me. This is key because my dance studio doesn’t have lockers and I’m afraid to leave my phone not locked up.

I struggle to find jeans that fit me properly. I have a long torso and short legs, so pants just look… odd on me. I’ll have to give Madewell a try. Thanks for the recommendation! I also loved hearing you talk about perfume. My current favorite is Vanille Antique from Byredo. It’s not a heavy vanilla scent, and there are plum and woody notes to help lighten it up even more. It’s a great summer scent.

Totally with you on BK and finding it difficult to find anything to say because there’s just too much to say, for sure. I adore it with my whole heart but even rereading it for the book club I’m just left staring at it like “holy moly” 😅 what overwhelms me is how Dostoevsky is able to demonise things he personally loves and romanticise things he disagrees with so brilliantly that it’s so easy to lose yourself in it with your questioning. It’s genius and it’s bloody distracting (affectionate), but it’s a pain in the arse to talk about briefly hahahaha. So excited to hear more thoughts, however broad, as you get further through it and hope you have a lovely day!!

Hi Carolyn! I’m 5’ as well and believe I have a similar build to you. It was so nice to hear you talk about clothing options!! I also love Madewell and Abercrombie for jeans and jean shorts. And I have the exact same pair of bike shorts from Aerie!! Pro tip: I usually get my pants off ThredUp because I need to get more expensive brands that I know will fit me, but that helps so I don’t break the bank. Also completely understand the high-waist struggle, especially because I have a short torso. I wear low-rise (just slight low-rise not extreme) jeans for that reason. Also, can TOTALLY relate to your love of lip products, especially ones that are moisturizing and smell nice. I recommend the Fenty Beauty Slip Shine sheer lipstick in the shade Goji Gang, it goes on like lip balm, looks elevated, and smells delicious. I will definitely try the pistachio perfume! I’ve been loving the perfume Eilish by Billie Eilish, I get a ton of compliments on it. So excited to find someone with similar taste!!

this was such a lovely video! it's honestly refreshing to listen about something other than books, sometimes i forget that non-bookish things are also cool lol. TBK is definitely one of my favorites this may, along with "The Book That Wouldn't Burn" by Mark Lawrence which completely blew me away. Sidenote: i started reading TBK in english cuz i had my partner's copy, and recently got myself a copy in russian (it's my first language) and i have to say, the degree to which the characters are unhinged shows a lot more in russian, and i'm loving it

Hi Carolyn. On the theme of your love of Russian Literature, I wondered if you could recommend any women writers of russian lit? Perhaps a video on it even? We hear so much from all sorts of sources about Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Pushkin, Chekhov, Turgenov, Pasternak etc, but less about the women writers.

Hi! Another art supply junky here 🙋♀️ Did you know that your technical pencil by Steadler can very easily last you 25 years? I have had mine since 1994. Yes. Really. I am currently reading "The sun also rises" but will try to read TBK (in French although it's longer - it's the copy I have) right after. Won't be finished by June 30th for sure but it's going to be some happy reading! 🖤🖋

Oh this is a GREAT crossover video idea! I love niche fragrances, Japanese skincare, high end products and most importantly, hearing enthusiastic and honest people share their recommendations for ANY products they love. Literature and lifestyle favourites? Oh, it's gotta be a thumbs up and a ten out of ten, would recommend! Charming, fun video to switch it up a little. PS- May I recommend Amika: The Kure Bond Repair shampoo? Next to the Australian salon brand 'Kevin Murphy', it's the best. Amika make the best smelling shampoo on planet Earth. If anybody wants to actually smell like Herbal Essences shampoo on steroids, please direct your nose towards Armani Prive's 'Pivoine Suzhou'.

Once I got on a bus after work and as the day was quite warm to say I was sweaty would be an understatement.Anyway I sat down in a seat where a very attractive young Italian lady shortly afterwards sat beside me,while her friend sat in the seat in front. She said in Italian to her friend "this guy stinks"(her friend duly laughed),and when it was my stop she looked at me and smiled as she needed to move to allow me out.I looked at her and said "grazie"(her friend laughed again).😂

I am watching from Europe and all the products you like and/or find useful and want to recommend are not available here, so it is not really intersting for watchers from outside of the US.
