Maybe there were some unresolved feelings surrounding their bio dad not being there - even tho i read in the comments that they were 4 and 1 when the mom married Charles, but no matter how young there could be raw feelings with step parents. Also Charles mentioned himself not having kept promises or open lines of communication - it's possible he wants to be there for them but was busy etc. but for children that feels like neglect and they can grow up with that feeling. Both of the parents neglecting that little one was heart breaking. When the baby tried to crawl in Mama’s lap she was sent away.
