if you think about it, Jacaerys "Jace" Velaryon is the MVP of the Dance of the Dragon. his diplomatic mission resulted in securing the support of the north. more importantly, the blood pact that he made with Cregan Stark proves the most valuable because even after he and his mother Rhaenyra died, the Lord of Winterfell honored that vow with Jace and went on to win the war for the black installing Rhaenyra's son with Daemon in the iron throne.

Rules that Rhaenyra really should have known or thought of: -1) don't let the celtigars be in charge of coin during a war, they are a greedy house that has always been trying to claim taxes from nearby settlements even though they are not under their rule. 2) if you want to keep the city, don't tax your smallfolk to oblivion. 3) dragons are extremely important to your houses power and your legitimacy, if you let them die then you're finished, so if you hear of a mass of people heading to the dragonpit to kill them send every last man there. 4) don't let your hostages die, Heleana is your half sister and kinslaying is a big taboo, they already suspect you approved or ordered the death of her eldest son, and you did order Maelor hunted down and it's believed you smiled at the sight of his corpse, letting a much loved queen and a valuable hostage die is ruin for your cause. 5) Don't fuck a man who looks nothing like your so called husband, and then try and pass off three regular person looking kids as velaryons. 6) Don't order the heads of the two dragonriders who are loyal to you and who stayed by your side faithfully, and then imprison your only remaining big ally. 7) instead of sending your kids to Essos where they could easily come into harm, be stolen, captured, enslaved, killed, or taken as a hostage( which the rogarres did), why not send them to Winterfell where you have a loyal ally, untouchable by the greens, you can stop by the vale another ally on the way, and guest right is sacred. 8) with the Vale, don't just let your cousin do nothing, cause the arryns love nothing more then sitting in the eyrie ignoring everything and everyone, rejecting giving aid to family, Ronnel Arryn's mother, Jeyne Arryn, Lysa Arryn, only give Rhaena if she sends the knights of the vale.

After rewatching this series and rereading the book, I have concluded that both sides are shit, and despite my support of Rhaenyra over Aegon, I can't help but feel sorry for Aegon II. They both lost so much, it's not a game of whom between them lost the most. Both suffered, and Aegon II blamed her for his children’s deaths and vise verse. This war didn't need to happen, the fault lies with no one person, but if you are to blame someone I suppose I'd blame Viserys I who should have summoned another great council that would have given women rights across the seven Kingdoms, that may have prevented this war. And Rhaenyra could have been wed to Aegon II still as heir of the Iron Throne and her husband as Prince Consort. It is what I would have done if I were in the shoes of Viserys, and I wouldn't have remarried until it was set and stone that my daughter would successfully succeed me. This whole ordeal originates with Jahaerys, Viserys, and Daemon if you ask me. Most specifically Viserys I and Daemon. I could be wrong though.

The real problem is as simple as it's explained when you read it. Aegon II had no interest in ruling. He wanted to sleep around and enjoy his life with little to no responsibility until he was twisted by his Mother and Criston Cole. Had he simply spoke to his half sister he could've had a lot more accomplished. Instead, trusting his power hungry family, he believed she would kill his brothers so they wouldn't stand against her in the line of succession. However she probably would've offered him the same thing he offered Rhaenyra and her kids, to have positions of honor at court and be affirmed in their possession of the land they currently had (or Dragonstone, depending). It wasn't until he was told Rhaenrya would surely kill his brothers that he actually agreed to take the throne from her. Rhaenyra was the decided Heir. It was a shifty Council who changed that AFTER the King died. What is the point in a king choosing his successor if his Council immediately changes that when he dies? No king would ever be okay with his decisions being immediately discarded when he dies. Especially when it comes to his heir.

Many comments here suggest how Viserys should never remarry, or should never named Rhaenyra his heir. You are talking with the knowledge on HOW this story gonna end with Dance of Dragons, lead to the downfall of Targs dynasty. But Viserys made decisions based on THE SITUATION at that time. 1. At the beginning, Viserys' heir only Daemon as the only male Targaryen left. But he knows the nature of his younger brother, and predict that if Daemon inherit the throne, he would be a cruel king. So after his son died at birth, and triggered by Daemon's mark "heir for a day", Viserys think to secure the throne for his daughter, who he sees more qualified (other than her gender). At this time, Viserys not thinking about remarry yet. He is thinking he is dying, with his wounds refuses to heal. 2. Then Viserys was pressured to remarry by his council. Maybe he was lonely, but letting just Rhaenyra alone without back up for the heir (away from Daemon) is risky. What if Rhaenyra died? What if Rhaenyra only has daughters (no sons)? So Viserys think, it's his duty to secure the throne further from Daemon by produce more heir. If only Laena Velaryon in the right age at that time, it would be perfect match. But why Viserys not seek further outside his castle for his new queen are still questionable. 3. It turn out that Viserys is not dying as he think, yet. He still lives to produce 3 children with Alicent. But from the start he only sees Alicent's children as a back up, he never has intention to change his decision on his heir. Probably at this point Viserys already regret his decision to remarry, as he saw the Hightower have lust for the throne. At this point, Viserys fails to see a war could broke after he dies. He naively think because the lords of the houses in westeros already swore to Rhaenyra as the heir, then there would be no problem. But a wiser king should named Aegon as heir, even if that would betray his favourite child Rhaenyra. 4. Why not marry Rhaenyra to Aegon instead? By the time Rhaenyra coming to age, Aegon still a little child. Why not marry Rhaenyra to Daemon? It is his purpose from the beginning to prevent Daemon from the throne. Why not making Aegon his heir? Viserys also don't like the idea the Hightower are at power. So all his decisions are mede by the current circumstances, without the knowledge of what we, a reader of Blood and Fire book, knows what will happen.

Honestly I’m so thankful for the actress changes in episode 6. Milly Alcock was fantastic as young Rhaenyra but young and adult Rhaenyra are very different characters with Rhaenyra honestly being comparable to Cersei in some ways. Alcock just seems too charming and precious for an adult version of this character but Emma D’Acry I don’t doubt will perfectly nail the dark side of this character

I personally viewed Rhaenyra in both the show and the books as someone who lost her mind the more she lost. The way i saw Rhaenyra is that she was going in the right path, naive and making mistakes at first but when she started losing her father and children, she became more paranoid “kinda like Cersei when she lost her children” And by the time she took the throne, she was no longer fighting for it for herself, her paranoia and anger was consuming her, betrayed and grieving... I don’t think she would rule as bad as she did if she wasn’t seeing red and enemies everywhere. When Dany burned the city and called “mad” she wasn’t “mad” she was traumatized. While Rhaenyra imo was no longer herself and lost too much and the more children she lost, the more paranoid she became. I personally sympathize with her a lot especially her motherly side because if I remember correctly, she started becoming brutal and making mistakes was after losing so much and ended up dying in front of her child, i think she’s tragic character in a way. I might be wrong but that’s how i viewed her and i like viewing her that way because it’s more enjoyable that way.

Nah. Rhaenyra didn’t do that many bad things. Blood and cheese wasn’t her, she spared Alicent and Helaena from the sword. She took Ottos head for treasonous acts. Most of her territory was taken without bloodshed. She was actually pretty sane. It took her the death of Visenya, Luke, Arrax, Rhaenys, Meleys, Jace, Vermax, Stormcloud and for Viserys to be stolen until she snapped and even ascended on the capital.

The part of Ageon the Conqueror dreaming about it is from the show. But down the line other Targaryens believe in the profecy of the prince that was promised. King Jarhaerys II married his son and daughter because a witch told him the prince that was promised would come from their line. These two ended up being Danenarys parents. Daenery's oldest brother , Rhaegar, was obsessed with the song of ice and fire, he thought one of his kids would be the prince that was promised . And Danenarys herself sees her brother Rhaegar on a vision speaking about it (from the book, as I remember) So they knew, but how much they knew and if they knew it came from Aegon's vision.. That idk. Maybe in the show we will see Rhaenyra telling her children?

The worst take I’ve ever seen. Targaryen women are the it factor of their line. She was a horrible monarch only bc she sat the throne after the Greens literally drained the kingdom’s funds toward a war they didn’t even win in the end. She was broke and never stood a chance bc they left her with nothing but a destabilised kingdom and dead children. If she was the reason no other female heir claimed the throne then why did the Dornish still have queens and why did Cersei Lannister assume the throne after her sons died?

Dont forget that Rhaenyra and Daemon ordered something for one of Aegon's children. I wonder how many are going to switch sides once that hapens. And since I'm kind of spoiling things: Aegon had the chance to avenge it and took it. I wonder how many of "us" would've done the same in that time/period if something like that would have happened to us? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Daenarys was 1000 times better than Rhaenyra. I'll just exclude the last moment of madness from Danny in king's landing but Rhaenyra was spoiled, incompetent and self-entitled, she never deserved the iron throne. On the other hand I was rooting for Danny until season 8

@@karthiknarayanan3705 history was recorded by the Citadel and the Maesters, As GRRM said even the book itself A Dance of Dragons was written by a Maester, so the events in the show may deviate as we are watching the fall of House Targaryen perhaps as they actually happened. It was a bloody war of course, but it was one set in motion by the same cabal that almost f**ked over Westeros in GOT, Lannisters, Maesters (censoring information about the long night and dismissing everything) same crew. The one who sat Aegon on the throne was Otto and Alicent. Rhaenyra will RIP with the culprits being dealt with and bloodline extinguished. At the end her son sits the throne and hopefully based on the Two Books yet to come out it will be Her bloodline (not Arya) that ends the Long Night. Thus making all that bloodshed worth it. Sucks there is a disconnect with shows and books, but this being HBO's second shot kinda makes me forget about the GOT show and look forward to Winds of Winter and Song of Spring

GRRM is heavily involved, and they only want to focus on the Dance and it’s aftermath. Plus they have other shows in development so it doesn’t make sense to have several running simultaneously
