Finally starting to have some reviews came out. I dug pretty deep to get a decent non affiliated review on this headset. I pre-ordered and canceled twice. Returned a Pico 4, gave up on the Crystal, and bought the last on my list, a Quest Pro. I am actually quite happy with it. The XRE had some much promised, but I grew more concerned about it as information trickled in. The FOV was the ultimate deal breaker, that, and I have a honker for a nose. Seems I dodged a remorse buy after watching this review. If you ever review a headset and say it is the best damn HMD known to mankind, I will believe you.

My bf ordered this and got his today, used it for less than 5 hours and requested a refund. The black screen thing is too often for a $1100 headset, the battery life is an absolute joke, the fans are loud, it gets crazy hot, weird part is it is NOT very compatible with VIVE FBT TRACKERS, oh and cant use OVR advanced setting AND FBT at the same time.

This is a great headset. But if you are not setup correctly you may have a false perception of it. 1. Software titles. when you first get setup. the vive titles are very limited. But you absolutely have to use two different stores: Steam and Viveport Infinity. This will open you up to 100's of great titles. Once I realized this I was totally happy with the product. 2. PC VR if this is your main preference then your hardware has to be top notch. 1. Hard wired (Ethernet) PC or laptop 2. Good to Great PC fully loaded specs. GPU, Memory, etc 3. Wifi 6 router to take full advantage of all that data that's streaming wirelessly. (unless you are using a cable.) 3.Wifi router Close proximity to headset when gaming. (This is really important if your streaming wirelessly) 4. PC or laptop software setup correctly with Steam and Viveport software( not business).

If you compare the HTC Elite XR ( £1,299 ) to the Pico 4 ( £350 ) you get the feeling that HTC is pissing all over us then saying it's raining. I sent mine back after 2 days of use . It looks cool though.

How come that this much went wrong here? Almost all the major selling points of this hd are flawed. And I consider that the confort is as important nowadays. With this much competition, i do not understand its price point, or to whom is addressing. Regular vr users are not going to wait for 3rd party printed parts, face interfaces, better custom straps, after paying premium. Its a scenario that does not make sense to me.

@@ji3200 Absolutely! Everything since has been a failure especially the cosmos, and yet valve's index was an instant success and four years later is still one of the best, although its a bit long in the tooth, a simple lens update could get it to the top again. HTC wanted to cater for the business side of things and has been a dismal failure except in Australia where the Valve Index was not available.

@@iamrocketray im still wondering what HTC thinking releasing Vive Flow? They are definitely not a smart company. Also new htc's standalone headset for $1100 is dumb idea because no game developers gonna support them with high price and lack of sell. They can compete with Meta with $399 price but being greedy can ruin their strategy

Great video, great analysis. This is a great headset, certainly an upgrade from my original vive from a few years ago. My gaming headset is psvr2 and this is my vr/ar plugged onto a 4090 laptop. and it's epic when attached to a laptop. Truly hardcore power ..and mobile! I have a question (if you read this lol) I cannot find any AR applications in either vive or steams storefronts. I really want to the AR practically. Do you know of any or where to look ? Great content, subbed. P.s for those that do have them and are going to single wire the headset up, you don't need the £100 cable, I got a 5mbps 5metre cable from amazon for 30 quid, works a treat. It took me ages to find one and was worried the data rate would not cope. But I have 100 mbps wifi and a 5m 5mbps cable, and I don't need to hook it up via cat cable to the router. This laptop and headset are truly mobile with a single wire...which I don't mind. The power for wireless to pc is not there for any of the headsets out there really. Not yet. Wirelessly, the built in stuff I don't use. I want the power and portability.

I wouldn't mind having this device but imo this is more a media device with the ability to do other stuff if you wanted to but its not priced for that segment. If this was priced around 400 this and the flow would make a touch more sense. With the types of devices there putting out price really should be a focus.

Well, we all know we can get better FOV, just depends on who will really supply it without killing our wallets, I've tried them all, and my pause in really playing for now is the lack of wireless big FOV. I personally Loved the STAR ONE VR FOV , it felt so natural , besides the res being on the low side and it didn't really work with every game and the headset wasn't that heavy, sucks it's a has been and forgotten. Sad that we are seeing way to many headsets and all have a little of this and a little of that , but still have issues, not perfect, to much Glare, to much blurriness, great clear screen but small FOV, XTAL headsets, to heavy to much money, the Varjo Areo, yeah everyone said great screen but lack of FOV, same with HP. If your using a cable, I'd say Pimax , wireless Quest 2/ Pico 4 for the $$$. How many more headsets from Vive are we gonna keep seeing? Pro 2, Focus 3, same headsets but one wireless both with a crazy Glare, prices still crazy too. Now this $1100 headset, FOV smaller now, what is holding these companies back from getting a standard 140+ FOV. Thomas, do you still use your Star VR at all?

This looks like a good concept, however poorly executed. I'm under the impression HTC shouldn't charge $1.100,- for this headset. I keep comparing it to the Quest Pro which I had the chance to test throughout the last week. For its new price tag of $999,- it's well worth the consideration, in my opinion. As of now, the optical stack likely offers the best clarity in the market. The mirroring effect described here has been reduced by Meta for the most part. When I saw it for the first time, I thought it was just LCD pixel retention. It really is that unobtrusive. The controllers are self-tracking, exactly what HTC is going to release with their upcoming Vive trackers. I was amazed by how well it's working. I'm certain this is going to replace lighthouse tracking, in the long run. The sound is actually good on the Quest Pro. It's perfect for meetings (which it is intended for, duh...) as well as for media consumption at low to medium volume. At max. volume it tends to thin out the soup a little but fortunately, the halo-style headstrap allows for wearing full-size headphones. I'm running a dedicated audio solution for immersive gaming. To me, audio is as important as visuals, if not more. When I look at people wearing the XR Elite, seeing how the frame goes right along the ears, I would have to settle for in-ears which simply won't reach the spatial depth (sensing the direction of sounds) compared to over-ear headphones. Speaking of the headstrap, it's super comfortable when worn correctly. It's comparable to a safety or bike helmet. The inner strap gently hugs your skull, locking it in position. No risk of losing it under rapid head movement. I tested this in a VR rave party and for headbanging it gets my seal of approval. I also noticed a little life hack: When wearing big headphones, you will notice the Quest Pro somewhat rests on the ear cushions, relieving the pressure on your forehead. I had an 8h session in this with no signs of fatigue, afterwards. Eye and face tracking are just a gimmick, as far as the currently available software is concerned, however the VRChat community has made it work in PCVR, already. It's janky as heck, but so is every early tech and it's delightful to see your avatar with these lively expressions. I have a video of that on my channel, if you're curious. Verdict: Let me tell you I didn't expect myself to suddenly write down a full-blown review of the Quest Pro... XD It's gotten so much bad rep for its price and the fact that Meta is the company behind it. But it seems people are way willing to look past that when the price is right (Pico 4 *cough*... TikTok *cough*). In order to be truly neutral, we need to look at products separately from the company shipping it. In terms of specs, this is a well rounded headset coming with cutting edge features and best in class optics. The XR Elite is more expensive and doesn't even ship with a charging brick, lmao. I have yet to see another serious review, looking at the Quest Pro with its new price tag. It feels like everyone jumped on the hate bandwagon early, then finished their reviews and crossed it off which is a shame. With all the feature updates it's now getting, there's a lot to love about this headset. I unfortunately had to return it because I noticed a very annoying lighting effect at the top-right corner which made me go cross-eyed in dark scenes but I will order a new one, assuming I simply got a defective unit. The Quest Pro really grew on me and I already hate going back to Quest 2 while waiting for the replacement.
