Great video. Great descriptions. My dogs go with me as well. I watch for their tongue out, and when it hangs off to the side it indicates they are getting stressed and in need of water. Works very well.

Awesome trail. Thomas, please be aware that your dog is not only struggling with her Paws, she is obviously struggling with her harness. This fits so badly and restricts her tremendously in her movement, which you can see in so many shots. Its not safe at all either. Make sure to give her a proper and decent well fitted harness and she will definately have more fun on the trail. These no-pull harnesses are rubish with super bad pressure points on your dog which makes moving correctly very hard for them. And being able to move well on hikes like this is so important. Plus she will slipp out and soon as she takes a mis step.

Great video, this makes me miss my favorite LA mountain. Robbie's reactions and range of emotions are exactly why I always went Baldy ski hut up and down lol. I took the Devil's backbone descent one time and vowed never again. My favoritest route was from Bear Canyon up to Baldy via the Old Baldy Trail which was long and steep (6000' of elevation gain) but was an excellent trainer for a Whitney day hike. PS. good thing you didn't take the ski lift down as it'd pop you off at the ski lift parking lot and would still require a road walk back to Manker Flats (or a hitched ride!)

Many years ago, a few friends and I hike up Baldy after midnight from valley you can see at 23:24 on the north side of the trail and came up just past the rest hut at the top of the ski lift. That was a fun hike. It's on a ridge that is steep, but not too exposed. Did Baldy a number of times, Great to see again.

Forty years ago I used to work and live there at the “notch”, the devils backbone and the mountain in general becomes pretty serious mountaineering once the snow happens. I grew up hiking in the “Gabe’s”, I could recommend some super cool through hikes/backcountry routes in that area…..

I use mt baldy to train for altitude because I live near the trail head. The hut trail is 4 miles up with 4000 gain, loose dirt on the steepest part (hard to go up and come down). My friend used to carry 2 to 4 gallons of water in backpack hiking up as training. I hike all the trails leading to summit but to save time the shortest is great (like sprint).

This is my home trail! I live 20 minutes from here and frequent it. Cucamonga Peak, Ontario Peak, and the Three T's trail off of Ice House Canyon are awesome trails as well. What a great video, so true to the hike. I watched so many videos on Mt. Baldy and by far this one is the most realistic and showcases each section well. Wish I had seen this before my hike up, I might have thought twice about it. Thank you so much.
I grew up there - drove up Baldy road countless times, Mt Baldy Lodge, etc. - yet it took me moving to Colorado to really get into hiking - couple dozen 14ers summited - Mt Baldy looks a lot like hiking Sandra Peak in NM - nice hike and good filming guys! ⛰️

As an owner of two dogs (a Shepherd and a mix) and as a former marathon runner, IF a dog owner is going to do a "strenuous" climb and take their dog along, then one should consider their dog's fitness level as well as monitoring (limiting) their activities so that they do not get overly tired the day before the hike. Dogs, dependent on their age, recover quite quickly, but responsible dog owners should look out after them as they will go 200% and then the next day will "gamely" try it again. I had a shepherd that loved chasing balls, but I made sure that I did not overdo it with him because he would run and run...tongue hanging out of the side of his mouth and he would still want me to throw him the ball. The point is to be mindful of your dog's physical conditioning, especially if you make them part of your physical activities.

we tuned in to this video after looking for the updated news on Julian Sands. Thanks to the videographers for making a wonderful video - beautiful cinematography and your enthusiasm and zest for nature is apparent. Well done. While I was not as miffed, my wife, well she is the type who scours parking lots looking for dogs stuck in cars - we must agree however that it does appear your dog is on the verge of suffering. Pressed for time, she made me skip to the end - "I want to see the dog okay at the bottom of the hill" - thanks for inserting the tag shot at the end of the dog drinking. Please do consider that in fact sometimes the best way you can indeed show the most care and love for your canine - is to leave them in the comfort of an air conditioned home.

How timely! I've gone to the summit of Baldy a few times; the most recent with my daughter and her boyfriend less than 2 weeks ago. We did an out-and back from the Manker campgrounds, up to Top of the Notch, and over the Devil's backbone to the summit. It's a a bit longer at about 14 miles, but less steep on most of the way up; a few places are very steep as you guys mentioned in the video. A cold drink at Top of the Notch cannot be overrated.

after watching the video, I realized that there are still many beautiful places in the world that not everyone knows about. one of them is San Antonio falls in Los Angeles. from the video, the view is very beautiful through the screen of my cellphone! although it looks how the journey to the place is quite draining, but I think it's worth it. I imagined how beautiful the view would be if I were standing right there, breathing in the clean, fresh air. It's tiring but if the reward is nature's beauty, why not?!😆 appreciation to Robbie and Thomas for the trip, thanks to you guys, I was able to see a beautiful side of the world that I never knew before, even if it was only through the screen of my phone😁😁😁😁.

Robbie, I rewatched this tonight, and it struck me how some parts of it reminds me of Vail, CO where my brother lives. He originally moved out there as an HVAC mechanic to work for Vail Resorts. He got to know the mountain well. So, if you guys ever want to learn to ski in Winter, or just backpack in Summer let me know. I’m sure I could talk my brother into hooking you guys up. Like me, he originally grew up in Northern Kentucky. Some of our favorite places always included the RR Gorge.

Mt. Baldy is no joke. Its so steep. It's difficult to ski because it gets very icy. If you are there on run of the rare days after a decent snowfall it's beautiful, but always dangerous. If you're insane like we were as kids; You can go surfing on the same day that you go skiing. It happens. Where else can you do that? 🔥
