This is a reading for contemplation of the Kalama Sutta. The instructions to the Kalamas is renowned for its encouragement of free inquiry; the spirit of the sutta signifies a teaching that is exempt from fanaticism, bigotry, dogmatism, and intolerance. As Thanisarro says, "The reasonableness of the Dhamma, the Buddha's teaching, is chiefly evident in its welcoming careful examination at all stages of the path to enlightenment. Indeed the whole course of training for wisdom culminating in the purity of the consummate one (the arahant) is intimately bound up with examination and analysis of things internal.."
Translated Thanissaro Bhikkhu - the text can be found here: www.accesstoinsight.org/tipit...

I’m a Mexican American dude from Texas living in Oregon listening to ancient Eastern philosophy from an Australian Buddhist Nun. I love the internet 😊. I have never commented on these videos before, but they’ve truly helped keep me saner than sane these last few crazy years. In the end, I feel like I’ve come out from the other side of the tunnel. I now love the drama that is life, and view everyone’s problems with extreme objectivity as well as extreme compassion. Life is so divine, and oh how I love works of art and passion like this channel which make people realize this fact, even if just for a few moments a day. Love yourself, and say Ommmmm ❤😊

A lesson in critical thought... How to unwind the knot, string by string. When one follows step by step . Thought by thought , this method graciously laid out by the Buddha can be applied to all areas of life. Liberation from ignorance. Liberation from suffering. I take refuge. Thank you.

Leonardo da Vinci said " The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions " Plato shared with us wisdom he learnt from Egypt, wisdom that was a death sentence in Greece, Rome (Christianity).. Pythagoras, Socrates and later Hypatia of Alexandria. Plato in his dialogue " The Republic " tells the parable of " The Cave " Plato starts by telling us of prisoners being held in a underground den, let us examine this den via the geometry of Bernhard Riemann and Felix Klein..Klein bottle..3rd and 4th dimensions. Plato tells us that the prisoners are bound up unable to move their heads, let us examine this bondage via the psychology of Erich Fromm..socialisation of consciousness.. aware-unaware. Plato tells us that the prisoners mistake shadows for substance, let us examine this mistake via the philosophy of Thales, Hume and Kant..synthetic a priori judgement..not thing in itself. Plato tells us that one of the prisoners is released, let us examine this release via the wisdom of T Lobsang Rampa..stilling the mind and conscious astral travel..leaving the cave/body. Plato tells us that the prisoners will reject this release, let us examine this rejection via the psychology of Stockholm Syndrome..Plato quotes Homer..forgive them for they know not what they say. Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds. Mathew 23 13 31.

Um not to put down this noble teaching but all the examples given and their effects are inferential thinking, which is advised against in the very same teaching. Sorry I just want to understand..what am I missing?

My dear friend and elder sister Samaneri.. Could you please tell me one of the most reliable and nicely written books on the Buddha's life? I have been wanting to read about his life and there are so many books out there, but not sure which one does most justice to his real journey and does not present exaggerated facts.
