Nice video, thanks. A few comments: 1. The user manual section you showed means that you can use the continuity test on a live network cable. SInce the lines are connected internally, they show as "shorts" if they are connected. If they are not connected (shorted), then there is a problem with the cable. 2. This unit is also available on Amazon as a KOLSOL AT226-C, which I purchased. The same as the Noyafa, but with 8 remote units instead of 1 (for the same cost at of the time of my purchase). 3. I found the user interface to be a bit wonky. In particular, I found it hard to enter small increments when calibrating the cable length. You had to press the up/down arrow very quickly and lightly to get a small increment/decrement. 4. The point of showning the length for each wire is to determine where a potential break might be if 1+ leads are broken somewhere along the cable length. 5. You might mention that the Scan function has 3 modes: low frequency, high frequency, and POE. The scan wand needs to be matched to the selected mode. This is explained in the manual. 6. Any cable certification tool is going to the VERY expensive. No where near even the price of s Fluke tester. 7. I've used a Fluke tester for work, and it is a much better unit, but this is a much greater value (and where I chose to spend my own money).

My partner and I both own the previous models put out by this company. We’ve worked 1000s of jobs for 5 years. We can’t believe the value and durability. This model here has even more features, though maybe not well executed. I just pulled the trigger on a 2k tester that can “certify” runs. Finally changing with the times. Will still use our testers from this computer for day to day toning and testing.

Just through my own use of this model I can confirm... 1. The PoE works well, the first thing to remember (as mentioned in this video) is to connect to the PoE port on the side of the unit. Tested 24v, 48v and 52v Poe with results within expected parameters... Including 802.3af/at 2. Cable length requires calibration on cables longer than 20m for accuracy. 3. When doing a port test with remote, the main unit will send a beep to the remote... Would have preferred an LED, but still cool (I got the unit with multiple remotes) 4. DHCP doesn't work well. If you know the IP range and Target, easy to set, but most of my networks are using rstp, so might have a cause (I have gotten a DHCP lease one time only, more testing needed) 5. The Tone source is far too strong. If you turn on and set sensitivity to high, you will get a tone from around a meter away from the unit (even through a person). Sensitivity can be reduced to help alleviate the over signal, and if you are going to a port, you can then use a remote (as mentioned in the video) Not a bad unit, but to note is that it is quite flimsy on the front side, I had in my pocket and was leaning over a ledge. A bit of weight on it and I broke the LCD. Is a fairly common 2.8" with a 40pin connector, but was soldered on. Managed to get if fixed though. Takeaway, personally worth what I paid (~$80 USD), time will tell if it goes well overall. Certainly more functional than the ~$800 USD fluke we got for work (didn't have PoE). My background, wireless Technician servicing ~500 sites, I feel this tool is going to be good for my work, as long as I don't break another screen (although got another spare :p)

The length test showing all wires is useful since a wire/wires that are cut or shorted would show up on this test.

One of the other Noyafa videos mentioned the cable length tester was for catching breaks in the cable, and to show you approximately where the break was. Your cable had no breaks so all the lengths were the same.
@Heizenberg32

There is always a small difference in length between the different pairs in UTP/STP cable. This is because each pair is twisted at a different rate (the number of twists per inch) to reduce crosstalk. Over, say, 100 ft of cable the pair with the tightest twist may be multiple feet longer than the pair with the least-tight twist. If the tester is showing them all of the exact same length it is either not very accurate, or it it's not actually measuring the length of each pair individually.
@nilpo
@nilpo 4 жыл бұрын
That section means that a good cable with test as shorted when plugged into a switch. This is because a switch does short the pairs.
@oneBoredFish
@oneBoredFish Жыл бұрын
From watching their official vidoes, I believe what that part of the manual means is that: they ran a special test with an RJ45 coupler that was intentionally shorted to show that it can detect shorts. The cable is still good because it was their test coupler that was producing the result of shorted wire. Their official video shows them using several different couplers with simulated issues to prove it can detect those specific issues.

Just bought one of these off ebay brand new for $ 120. Its pretty cool can link to a swx pull an ip and full cat5-6 cable marker metrics got a cat 5 & BNC TDR and the really cool thing the tweedler is super powerful I mean it can hear a tweedle when your 3 feet away from the end of the cable. Thats really cool when your busting your ass trying to find a cable in trough or in the floor. Its got flash port too that works great. For $120 it cannot be beat. I'll keep my expensive Fluke in the truck and beat this things balls off first.

3:36 I believe that what they mean is this. An ethernet connector at the switch or LAN card is connected to the ethernet chipset using an ethernet coupling transformer. At DC or at low frequencies, the ethernet transformer appears as a short circuit. If you use a multimeter to test the resistance between a pair of ethernet signal wires, you will get a low resistance (short). If you use a cable tester and the cable is plugged at one end into a switch, if your cable tester cannot detect the switch, then your cable tester will show a short circuit even if the cable is good.

Mine broke in a year. does not show correct remote numbers anymore and wiremaps. POE/Ping port is the only port that still works. I got a Trend Networks VDVII Pro instead. Used. It can do digital signaling/probing. They sell used testers with warranty. It looked new. I just ordered their cloud connected POE Pro as an upgrade. Also used. cost around 450€. I know its 3x but it'll never break and they will service it until I have it.

I am going to try and translate what the manual is trying to say about the connection to a switch. This wire mapping result shows a cable that's connected to a switch. The result is good though it shows short but that's how the tester and switch talks. IMO - This test is pretty much a continuity test where testing if current goes through one strand of wire and returns on another which technically is a short. ie current goes out through the blue cable and comes back through the blue and white indicating the cable is going into some electric conductor at the terminated end of the cable then return. Depending on the corresponding line it returns then you know if it's a switch or true short on the line. Pairs 4 and 5 should show loop, etc.

I picked up a similar model , with the same feature but it only cost me $40, Including shipping (Free) on Ebay around May 2020. Very interesting how much prices have dropped but YES, these budget devices are extremely useful in a home or smal office setting where you can afford to spend too much on equipment like this.

I'm trying to understand what's the use of that 'port flash' option ( 5:01 ), but your explanation got me quite confused :/ If I connect one end of the cable to a switch/router, then why would I need this tester to tell me which port on the switch/router it's plugged into...

Question, I have a renovation that has a ton of network cables, a ton of power cables and telephone lines and a door bell system. I have to figure out where all the cables go, or where do they come from. Most of the network cables are labeled, but the power cables and the door bell system are not. Worse off, I have to rewire some rooms for power from one breaker switch panel to another. So, can this unit help me? Mainly I need to ID cables in the rooms throughout the building (several even in different floors) to where they are connected in the electric breakers panel in the basement. I know that I need to have a cable disconnected from the electric power grid and the switches off to properly ID each line, but, could I connect the 8 remote units in the rooms, then go to the panel downstairs and ID each remote unit in the basement?

Budget Nerd, I finally bought this unit, and am loving it but I only have one issue. When ever I use it to trace a cable, it often beeps between 3 to 4 cables, and its very annoying. I have an old tracer and that sucker pin points the exact port or cable that I am trying to find. Have you come across with this issue? I have adjusted the sensitivity but that doesn't help. I don't know if maybe I have a defective probe/tracer? What has been your experience with the scanning/probe?

I would be very surprised if you can't use it to trace any kind of copper wire, of course not out of the box because the lack of RJ45 on a power cord. But it's very likely you can make your own "converter" cable. My guess is it just sent a power pulse at a certain frequency that the receiver can pick up.

No it had to be a CableIQ model (probably Fluke CIQ-100) she compared to. MS2 does not 'certify' cables which she had to do from the looks of it. MS2 is basically a cable mapper and closer to the functionality of this device but without the fancy color LCD. One thing to note about a color LCD is it needs a backlight. Backlights suck a fair bit of power. It looks neat and all but worth bearing in mind when you do not want to have to charge often.
