The budget helmet that’s breaking all the rules - ILM Z501 Motorcycle helmet

My co worker had an ILM . A modular one where the chin flips over. It did flip over, while he was riding. nearly threw him off. All ILM did when he tried to contact them was send him some plastic screw to replace a part of it.

My cousin has one he has never ran into this I wouldn’t buy the modular one however go with the regular full face can’t fuck up something so primitive

I have this very same helmet and I like it. Is it the best? No Is it the worst? No It's a decent helmet that will do the job and looks very nice. feels great, very comfortable. Do I know motorcycle helmets? Been riding crotch rockets or super sports if you will for over 25 years.

How noisy is it? I've only been riding for 2 years and have only ever owned 1 helmet and it's so noisy. I'm wondering if this is just a common issue with all helmets??

@@Diemerstein I'm more referring to wind noise at a cruising speed of like 60 mph / 120 kph. Or is that something you can't get arround without sacrificing being able to hear traffic..

@@shersandrews If the helmet is too big, as in not a snug fit, you will hear the wind noise and yes, a cheap helmet don't fit as nicely. This helmet is a very nice fitting helmet.

own two, its Gille Gts v1 in my country. it is less than $100 here and great for the price. worth for casual riding and weird people thinking it should be rated for track and high speed only yo be qualified "worth it" price and quality, it is worth it seen people crash with it in REAL WORLD scenario and were fine

I will say the quick connect locking mechanism is cool and all but if I had a choice I’d go with the D ring strap if they had that option.

This Helmet reminds me of the Icon Airform that i have. Which is a "budget" helmet that only costs about $150 bucks. Mine has the internal tinted visor that can be lifted and raised as well as the vents that can be opened and shut. Its a good helmet for the money.

Have one on Nardo grey colour... Its nice, here in serbia it cists 140usd... Got 2 wisors, one tinted one clear, 2 that little wings on back, its nice heet for that price, its not for some big speeds, cruising speeds they are quiet

It looks amazing. On the other hand, there are helmets like the AGV Pista GP RR Carbonio (1500Eur), which also look amazing but are SOOOOOOO expensive, and they're more suited for the circuit than the street. So, I think this budget helmet looks really nice. I will probably buy it as my second helmet :) Cheers!

Yeah the more I wear it the more I actually like it. Sure it’s not as good as more expensive brands but for the price it’s a great value

i would never trust amazon for helmets, head is the most important part of your body. name brand a must. as well as snell and ece certifications.

I actually got to test that helmet and worked perfectly fine. 75 mph low side to high side then off a steep embankment. Id by another icon airflight all day​@@DJAlt1135

I appreciate you reviewing unknown budget helmets but let's be honest, This isn't a proper review unless you're testing it's safety by destroying it and seeing what it survives. Without proper safety tests, it's just a good looking thing to put on your face without proper protection when it matters most. There's a reason why an expensive helmet is expensive, It's because it's safe to wear when you're in an accident.

Fair statement, but I’m not exactly a safety expert so I wouldn’t know what to look for since Ive never broken a helmet on purpose. I just state what the manufacturer states on their website as I’ve done with all my other helmet videos. I have to disagree to some degree with your last statement - I don’t think there’s a direct correlation in price and safety, at least not always

I went down with one of these helmets on in 2021.. my Harley high sided and landed on the helmet. it crushed my head, I ended up with a subdural acute hematoma and was practically spoon fed for 8 months. I highly advise you not to buy this helmet.

My head and safetys worth more than a budget motorcycle helmet. I want, if possible, not to hear so much air while I'm riding. At the same time, I need the safety checks to go above the minimum DOT or whatever other dept, that determines the requirements to pass.

@@IronBornRider if you can't afford to spend the money on a proper helmet you dont need to be riding. Better yet save the money buy the proper helmet then save and buy the bike . If buying from a dealer pay the .50 cents or more a month on the payment and add it to darn loan on the bike itself either way why risk your life for Pennies less in the end.

This ILM, though it’s a budget helmet, still has the safety rating that come with some $400-600 helmets do.

@IronBornRider I'm one that when I got my 1st bike, I was 44 or 45 years old. I knew nothing about helmets' quality or safety. All I saw was it was sold in the dealership, so hey, they're all the same this one is just 200 vs. 900. Then I noticed the helmet breaking apart for no reason bought a bell helmet right away I noticed the difference in the sound and less noise while riding. Had an accident had no choice but to buy the cheaper ls2 helmet because they didn't have bell or shoei helmets in stock in my size and right away I was like oh hell no huge there was a huuuuge difference. I went and got a Shoei this time around and again a biiiiig difference bke I will say I was going between the shoei and another ls2 like it's been said many of budget companies have started stepping their game up the shoei barely beat the ls2 the price i got on the shoei 799 helmet I got for 500 something and it's was just a little more than the ls2 model but the shoei fit was much snug and not painful snug and the sound was much better as far as not hearing all the outside noise

My brother high sided his gsxr750 at 30 mph wearing an ILM full face. He literally went down and slid on the right side of his face. Not only did it save his face and head the helmet really only got scraped up. They are good helmets.
