The Budget Ricoh GRIIIx ???

The Panasonic Lumix GF1 was first introduced in September 2009. That was 14 years ago! But that doesn't stop me from using it for some street photography. Coupled with a 40mm lens (in 35mm equivalent), could it be the budget version of a Ricoh GrIIIx? Enjoy!

Well my GF1 images don't look quite as retro lol! But good job on the video editing there. The GF1 is still a very capable camera at lower ISO and exposed carefully, probably best to shoot RAW or RAW plus jpeg.

You should revive it! I reckon you can charge the battery while inside the camera via the ac port? Tho I’m not too sure about this. OR you can get a cheap third party charger online 👍🏻

Great Video. I was looking for the 20mm lens and got the camera with it. Looking forward to testing in the field - NYC. Hopefully I can find something to take a Picture of. 😂 It would have been nice to hear your impressions on the sensor and the jpeg/raw files of an old sensor.

Yes, I do agree. But then again, I’m too used to using faster cameras for work so I’m sort of spoiled in that regard. But for some reason, I am able to accept the slowness of the lens AF as it slows me down…in a good way (makes a photowalk bit more chill). Photowalk one of these days would be good🤙🏻

The settings I use were mostly Manual. Unless I’m in a rush or feeling wee bit lazy, then I’ll use either A or P mode

GF1 may be a good camera but you still can't compare a 12MP micro 4/3rd to a 24MP Ricoh iiix!

In terms of tech specs, the GRIIIx blows this old m4/3 tech away. But then again, for someone who is looking for a “budget” alternative, this camera is not too bad. Cheers!

the gf series are nice but they are not a richo, they more go against the the pentax q system .

I agree that they are not Ricoh but they cant go against the Pentax Q system head on too, I reckon. The sensor size, lens size, and overall package is just bit too different to go side by side. If we want to be precise, it’s in-between the two in terms of sensor size. But hey, we shoot with whatever camera we vibe with, right? Cheers!

Now get the DJI 15mm f1.7 which is basically the exact same but rebranded Leica 15mm f1.7 and half the price of the Leica, and you are completely set for having a budget GRIII as well.

Never knew about the DJI 15mm lens. I did a quick search and it seems that it’s not easy to get from my side of the world. But will definitely keep a lookout! Cheers!

@@MaverickAsio I just did a search and it seems that those selling may have 'wised up' to the DJI alternative and thus also raised the secondhand prices, which is a shame. But that said, you do still find them going fairly cheap. Some have also raised concerns that they don't work on Olympus E-M1 mk2 bodies, but this is the camera I use and I've had no problem at all.

Yes, both 20mm in micro 4/3 and 26.1mm in GRIIIx are 40mm (in 35mm equivalent length).
