That moment of taking down the individual impact over the broader improvement was class!
@returnoftheredeye2 ай бұрын
The media always does this in the runup to elections too. They do vox-pops with the public, and most of them follow the format of "As 'x', I'm gonna vote for whomever is going to look after x's the most." It doesn't matter if 'x' is parents, homeowners, old folk, young folk etc, the individualism is the same.

Brilliant MG as always. Love the individual vs the wider picture comment. What a shame our so called news media journalists haven’t got that kind of insight. Oh wait, that wouldn’t fit the narrative and keep stoking the culture wars. Mind you I have had a good laugh watching the good old Beeb desperately trying to find some straws to clutch at as to how we’ll all be worse off despite there being exactly sweet Fanny Adams that will impact almost all of us. Wonder if they realise how sad and pathetic they look? Good job Jonathan’s here to make sense of it all for us!

Great comment and great video from Matt, was starting to feel like I was going mad watching the news. Why are they so reluctant to mention any positives that will make a better society? I’d rather see an expansion of breakfast clubs so children don’t try to learn on empty stomachs and that’ll make teaching easier and hopefully keep more in the profession and so on.

Good stuff as usual Matt. As to your initial question ' who are the working class' I would posit.... Anyone who doesn't vote Tory. 😂😂👏👏👍👍
@weswheel48342 ай бұрын
But like in the US, lots of working class people traditionally vote for right of centre parties because they get convinced by the old "better with the economy" line, plus the idea that if they ever get rich then they don't want to pay much tax. Pyramid scheme.

Well no. For it to end we either need to find lovely sunny uplands that don't involve Europe in any way, or for enough of the country to loudly want to rejoin that we can sensibly talk to the EU about it. The latter seems more likely than the former, and is still going to take a long time to get to.

Yes, I hear you. We should also take into account what the budget is trying to achieve. But us who dislike it don't dislike the final goals. But the fact that even Labour chose the easiest targets - working class, or working people, or however you want to call us who actually live salary to salary. But you know, when the Tories did things very similar to that, they also had a bigger goal than just screwing people over. Hell, when Thatcher closed the mines it wasn't just to mess with the miners. I imagine that was just a bonus for her. Point being, you'd think Labour unlike the Tories would find other ways to get the money needed in the budget. Like, I don't know, taxing the very rich and wealthy? How about raising corporation tax? Taxing inheritance? Maybe taking a cut to the salaries and benefits Lords get, or even just closing down the house of lords all together? Or how about this - you do raise taxes, but you remove unnecessary taxes such as the TV licence? Point being, people voted Labour to make a change. So far, it's just more of the same crap. 🤷♂
