@jessicathomas73Ай бұрын
@evelyn_r I think that is exactly what is happening. I have worked for a lot of builders who use new clients to fund previous client work because they waste the money or don't cost the job properly. One scumbag used to use client money to fund his lifestyle and gamble with it instead of using it on the jobs. It didn't matter how fast I was able to distribute payments to contractors or suppliers, the ahole would withdraw the cash at an ATM. He ripped me off as well, but the ATO finally stopped him. Worst conman I ever dealt with. He screwed a lot of people. Building authority did nothing. I only stayed to try and help people get paid. I had contractors on the phone daily, begging to be paid. Thankfully, it was only for a short time as he was shut down by the ATO.

Why isn't the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) also liable for lack of inspection quality with step by step inspections to catch issues/or non-compliant work. They literally have written on their website that, "A key function of the VBA is to supervise and monitor the conduct and ability of registered building practitioners to practise. This ensures compliance with the Building Act 1993 and associated legislation." (yes, that is how "practice" was spelt on their website). Shouldn't the inspectors also have their license scrutinised and suspended/cancelled for poor oversight and quality management? Also, where is the scrutiny of the trainers who give the licenses to people like this? Shouldn't the builder in this case be liable for Fraud? and because housing is being treated as an investment in Australia, should it not also be a financial crime? This cowboy industry needs to wrangled and politicians need to be held accountable!

@downrightdisturbed 100percent, I'm a retired builder, and this crap has been going on for decades. Government department's should be held accountable when they pass inspections on every stage of any build. These dodgy builders/developers get away with people's money, and do runner's by going bust, most usually pop up later under different company names. Government departments and building boards in every state throughout Australia should pick up on this quite easily but turn a blind eye, or get paid to turn their heads. I knew of many developers that broke laws with cutting trees down that were supposed to remain on sites, they didn't care and cut them down and just paid a small fine. Reality is there's huge corruption throughout this industry. The carpenter is also dodgy, as if he wasn't he wouldn't work for someone like that, he still took money from him, also it's your name associated with obviously a non compliant builder, he only said all that crap, because he was caught out on site and on camera. Everyone who did all that faulty work should be held accountable. I can't believe the owners also, that they didn't notice the house bouncing, or the many issues that is clearly visible, they should've held the cheques back for each part of the build.They had a legal case involving their child being electrocuted too, did they follow up on that?.I do feel sorry for them, as the builder will definitely disappear and quickly, knowing he is being chased down by others in the same predicament. At least there are still honest, reputable builders out there that still hold great work ethics, and are proud of the work they do.
@ccmmrrnnАй бұрын
@@JenBess Mate you're right, but I'd cut the homeowners some slack. Most people outside of the trades have no idea what good building work looks like, and when they're being misled and lied to by an unscrupulous builder like this bloke they're made to feel like unreasonable for questioning them. They're under massive financial pressure, just crossing their fingers and hoping for the best, this guy's promising them the world but delivering none of it, and I guarantee he guilt-trips them and feeds them a bunch of lies whenever they do try to challenge his BS. Most people don't want to kick up a fuss, don't want to risk being a 'Karen', and dodgy bastards like this know it and exploit it. Someone like this leads you far enough down the garden path and you forget what's right and wrong, what's fair and unfair, they make you question your whole existence. Just look at her face at the start of the video, you can tell she's under so much stress, and that's before she even knows the half of it. I have plenty of sympathy for them, I guarantee this has been slowly destroying their mental health. They are the victims and this prick should be in jail.

Once you see the truth, it can't be unseen. All those departments are set up to make it look like they are doing something while achieving nothing at all. They are there to give the idea of looking after the people, but never there to make sure anything is done morally with integrity. These things can be stopped, but there is too much pain and benefit to those in control of it all. It's not just the building industry. It's everything.

This is wild. I used to live in Emerald, moved because the storms every year were too stressful among all the giant gumtrees ( had multiple near misses and a very expensive insurance claim beacause of a branch falling on the house ) and the dirt roads and constant damp got to us with a young child. Beautiful place, it's a bushfire zone, so that means there are alot of extra regulations when building/renovating. It is almost always damp there in some parts, even with a fully enclosed home we had so many mould issues. I can't imagine what these people have growing in their walls etc with all those exposed wall cavities. Also that electrical dangling around on the roof will definitely get chewed by a cockatoo eventually, i doubt ol Andrew installed proper safety switches, so the roof could become live at any point. I hope these people get to sue this clown and engage with the builder you recommended, he definitely seems legit.

This is just scandalous! All of the inspectors, Councils and government departments that allow this to happen need to pay to fix this and apologise to the homeowners they have let down by allowing it. Jail isn't a strong enough punishment for this scumbag. What are the Banks and insurance companies saying about this substandard work that is devaluing homes banks have loaned money against and homes that could catch fire due to shonky electrical work or that are open to burglars and rapid deterioration?

I feel for all these home owners who have worked their butts off for their dream homes only to be let down again and again by the system. I feel for the carpenter who is trying to do the right thing by the home owners. You’re a great tradesman caught up in the middle. Wishing you a great outcome from this with a reliable builder that appreciates you. Unfortunately this is just one of many dodgy builders that are Australia wide and we all know there are thousands. Thanks to Site inspections for making everyone aware of this. We the builders with a good reputation and that do things correctly need to get these cowboy so called builders out of the industry

This is absolutely unacceptable and criminal. There is no excuse for such dangerously negligent building practices, which could soon lead to serious harm. This builder must be held accountable, face legal consequences, and have his assets used to compensate the victims he has defrauded.

Our hearts are broken for these family's, how can he sleep at night knowing he ripping people off, if these family's were here in New Zealand builders like my self would be calling in favors from every supplier and the trade schools to get product on site and pre-trade students as they need to learn hands on problem solving, I personally would be there every weekend with a full hands on deck team of 6 or 7 tradespeople. Much love and respect for what you are doing, Here in New Zealand we have checks at every stage, as we also have some doggy builders and our penalty's are hard and fast and our banks will not payout until they see the council inspection sheets saying past, and the home owner has been asked if they should make the payment, in some cases a bank will not pay anything until the build is finished and has passed its final inspection and passed code of compliance from the council.

Online revenue + eventual insurance payments would make it a worth while venture. The sad thing is the builder can close doors today and start working as a builder with his brother/cousin/friend in a brand new business tomorrow under their name. As for the carpenter, he seemed like a decent bloke that was trying and was helpful . But that doesn't mean he was doing the right thing in the end. By turning a blind eye and not escalating this breaches he was aware of to the correct authority when the builder failed to address them in a timely manner.

What's worrying also is that it appears he's done the plumbing, drainage and potentially the gas to the instantaneous HWS. I'd be checking that the plumbing has been passed or if a new drainage plan has been completed. Because this is an extension and not a bathroom reno, there will need to have been a new drainage plan submitted to council. The spacing on the hangers for the elevated drainage under the house doesn't meet AS either.

Respect your work! We are renting in an apartment complex in Newport, Vic that was built about 6 or 7 years ago and it is laughable the stuff I have seen. We are renting from a friend so it sucks for him. So much silicone patching everywhere! Half the apartments have internal water damage. There are stalactites growing in the garage and water damage throughout internal corridors. There was an evacuation 2 years ago due to massive water ingress into the plant room causing an electrical fire. Everyone had to move out for over a week! The builders keep coming back to do patch up maintenance works with silicone. They finally came to do some rectification works after the body corp threatened to go to VCAT. I worked as a safety officer and have been on my fair share of construction sites, I went onto the roof after each day of work they did and took photos. Such a mess to my untrained eye so I couldn't imagine what you would think. I will keep pushing for fixes as a renter but the builder don't want to take ownership. The photos I could show you 🤦♀️ I'm seriously considering being an owner builder when we eventually buy and renovate. I know one of every trade and I trust them to do a good job but I don't trust anyone else to do it right.

you're saving so many more people from this builder's shoddy work. Well done. This needs to be exposed, and VBA is a joke. The biggest joke is the builder can terminate the contract and walk away scott free. WTF - VBA should be there holding the builder to account. Edit: I want that carpenter building my house.

This need to have a ACA addition done, you can’t tell me that these three owners are the only ones and not all owners would watch these videos. This builder isn’t just the worst for 2024 I think he may take part in the worst builder of the century. Zahar keep up the great work exposing these guys, even thought nothing will happen to him, because if he receives a fine he files for bankruptcy owners don’t have a leg to stand on. Also not only should he be accountable but these inspectors and VBA should also be held accountable.
