So alright. As many of you seem to be having a hard time understanding the meaning of this video, let me tell you my own point of view: A young girl falls in love with a tree, she dances around it and embraces it as an expression of love. However, despite the girl's unconditional love, the cold, emotionless tree is unable to show any kind of affection towards the girl. She then leaves and the years go by... Many years later, the girl would return to the tree she originally fell in love with as a child. She holds its branch (which basically expresses two people holding each other's hands), but the branch falls to the ground. The girl then notices that the tree is bleeding badly so she rips her left arm off and replaces the tree's disconnected branch with her own hand. But the tree doesn't show any sign of gratefulness. Instead it takes advantage of the girl's kindness, grabs her other arm, rips it off too and keeps it to itself. Moral of the story: If you fall in love with someone or something that will never give you the love back, they'll take everything away from you and you'll end up with nothing but emptiness on the inside. The tree represents all those cold-hearted, selfish, narcissistic men/women that only take and never give anything in return for you. You know, the meanest kind of people that would rob your heart and steal everything away from you just to feel better about themselves. Feel free to share your own point of view!

I remember finding this and thinking it's horrible. I left the video and later on (I think a year later) the chorus came into my head. I couldn't get it off my mind so I looked this up again and listened to it and read the lyrics. I fell in love with TBTB and even met Matt. They definitely were a big part of my life. I don't listen to them as much anymore as my music taste has changed, but I still love them. Awesome song. In a league of it's own and definitely nothing like it.

Just saw these guys Sunday night in their very own hometown of Buffalo!!! @ Timothy Fain , He can scream very well and has an incredible range when it comes to style. He does the raw, cracked yelling & and the whiney cleans for emotive effect. It's not traditional screams its his own style meant to complement his lyrical concepts.

This is powerful as fuck if you allow yourself to see the message. You know the book The Giving Tree? This is like the reverse of that. Some people just take, take, take and never give. For instance, when this girl hugs the tree and its branch falls off, she replaces it with her arm because she cares about it. But this tree just goes ahead and takes her other arm too. I was listening to this again and it hit me.. We cremated my wife shortly after my daughter was born and put her in a bio Urn and buried her with a baby tree on top to absorb the ashes.
