It’s weird because I’ve seen this phenomenon at night countless times. Yet almost every single time, the glow during takeoff is a bright and vivid blue, rather than a dull and dark red.🤔 I do sometimes see the engines glow red when on idle though!😃

If an engine is glowing red at idle that is a problem. Unless it is a old engine.

I've always wondered why the GE90 is the easiest to see deep inside at the red hot turbine disk compared to other engines. The GE90 is very glowy, as is the RB211, compared to a lot of other engines. I don't think it's running hotter, it's just somehow easier to see deeper into the engine from a wide variety of angles.
