Fr Tom Murray discusses the events that took place in Granard during the first week of November 1920, from the assassination of D.I. Kelleher in the Greville Arms Hotel, and culminating in the destruction of the town of Granard by the Black and Tans on the 3rd November 1920.
Fr Murray is a well-known local historian and a member of the County Longford Decade of Centenaries Working Group.
This event is taking place as part of Longford County Council's Decade of Centenaries programme, during Longford History Month 2020.

Very informative, spent a lot of my childhood in Longford, visited Granard on many occasions. my grandfather told me all about the troubles, and still very much interested in this turbulent period. Many thanks

Im surprised as the narreteur use s the verb murder , of a British agent in Ireland ? I would have thought execution , or killing ? Might be closer to the event ?

My first cousin twice removed General Sean Mac Eoin ambushed the Black and Tans after the burning of Granard at Clonfin and became known as the "Battle of Clonfin"
