Build in the year 1732, Shaniwar Wada was the pride of the Maratha Empire. Till 1818, it was the royal throne of the Peshwas. It was the powerhouse of their empire till something mysterious happened in the year 1828, it ruined the whole empire and the fort was burnt into ashes. It is said that till now, the last words of Narayan Rao, Bajirao's grandson, can still be heard by the people - "Kaka mala vachva" means Uncle save me.
