Honestly, I didn’t realise anyone paid attention to the age ratings of the sets tbh. 18+ just seems to be an excuse to up the price

Yes and 18 plus is just the customers that can afford it and sometimes not even that I'm in my thirties and I've been getting into Lego a little bit

@@ryanb4940plenty of 18+ sets can be built by kids, and can be ultimate play sets. My daughter will play for hours with her friends with the lion knights castle, she is 8.

I think 18+ is just a classification for marketing sets as not for children so that adults don't feel bad about about buying a children's toy. So it's a way to make it appeal more to adults and clearly labelling som sets as for adults.

Lego age ranges are just marketing. The 18+ range is an excuse to upcharge their fans.
@hermanjacobs44252 ай бұрын
You are quite spot on about how Lego markets its Harry Potter range of products. I think Lego understands that Harry Potter has a wider fan base than Star Wars’s in terms of niche appeal, which they are able to harness in a plethora of product concepts. 18 plus in Lego HP’s context doesn’t necessarily mean target audience but as a general hint that it can be enjoyed well beyond the recommended age. With its own children ranges, the adult range provides interactive play for both audiences simultaneously.

I love the variety of subjects you cover. You don’t go the usual vlog, massive monthly buying, set review, and back again to vlog.

On a sheer practical level, how could kids play with UCS sets? A 7 year old can barely hold such giant ships, much less swoosh them. Whereas you don’t swoosh big buildings, they stay on the table and you play with the minifigs.
@coraldiamond19222 ай бұрын
Exactly, very few kids will be playing with this particular set, bear in mind we just had a play scale one too.

The previous burrow is probably my favorite of the “new” Harry Potter sets. As such, I have nothing against this new version, but I also have no desire for it. My “burrow” itch has been adequately scratched already.
@joshslater24262 ай бұрын
If it’s 18+, it will be expensive. If the age rating is less than that, it will still be expensive. The UCS or adult oriented sets are always going to be extremely pricey, but even if you get sets aimed to be built from a young age still means you have to pay top cash. At least this new Burrow has some unique figures, such as Bill Weasley (and Charlie Weasley, who I honestly didn’t think would ever got one).

I support your anecdotal point. I too let my children play with the UC's harry potter sets. I think maybe it is because its a type of story that attracts more people who want to share the experience with their children. I don't own UC's star wars sets but I could see myself treating an USC falcon differently.

I take 18+ and UCS as an indication of a couple of things - 1- There's likely little "playability" in the set which is okay most of those sets will likely be displayed on a shelf or behind plexiglass - price, while a factor, usually isn't a big one unless it's a young person who would love one as a gift (aspirational). 2- certain "lines" like City, City Space, and even Technic have "implied" playability - coming from the perspective of a Gen X or post Boomer - we were young enough to experience a lot of really great LEGO sets and have the money to recapture or fund our nostalgia. I'm a relatively new AFOL (past couple of months) and I've purchased mainly City Space sets along with finding some of the vintage sets I had as a young person (which were sold off at a yard sale when I was a teen in the mid 1980's). LEGO is often criticized for making too many big money sets but they're selling what sells. I really don't see a major lack of options at the sub $50/ 50pound price point in most lines (even Star Wars or Harry Potter) and almost every line has a good amount of playability.

I think the age rating refers to the building experience. Huge sets would be harder to build than a small one so sets that are 18+ means that it would be hard for a kid to build it but doesn't mean it's hard to play with.
@coreylapinas10002 ай бұрын
The only truly adult set I can think of, or maybe two, are the Starry Night and The Great Wave. Kids will probably gravitate to a giant AT-AT anything licensed or even the Titanic. The Modern Art set is conspicuously missing because I can't think of anybody it is for.

Matt looks good with this longer hair length instead of the usual peach fuzz. I'm not sure if the Our Family fun love @home sign being upside down is a sign/message of distress that something untoward is happening there. Is tipping it over in the middle of the video also some sort of message?

@Scotty_in_Ohio2 ай бұрын
Children for the most part don't have much money - so with the exception of young people who are working or get a gift card or an allowance it's generally their parents who buy. I've seen many times where a parent buys a set with their child and buys a set for themselves. I think this Burrow set is an option to just buy one set and actually spend a bit less than two sets - also allows for play together rather than some play and the rest display...

I atualy don't think the UCS hogwarts express is as similar to play scale hogwarts express. It's different enough with its incorporated movies scrnes in the carriage , the platform, and the detailed engine itself.
