In 1998 I had just bought a new video camera (a Canon XL1) and took a road trip up to the San Francisco area to try the camera out.
After I got off the ferry from my hours on Alcatraz Island I saw “The Bushman” who was a street performer (busker) along the Embarcadero in the Fisherman’s Wharf area. I saw what he was doing, told him I wanted to get it on tape, gave him some money and off I was. He wanted me to sort of hide with my camera so I wouldn’t let his “customers” know that something was going to happen. His name was David Johnson and he had been doing this job since 1980 up until his passing in 2019. People say he made over $60,000/ year.
Shot using CANON XL 1 (mini DV format)
