I hadn't heard of the Ludlows, but I was browsing through a junk shop in Hastings when I found a vinyl LP of theirs called "The Wind and the Sea". As I'm a folk music fan, and as the LP was only £1, I bought it - now I can't stop playing it and am worried it might wear out!

Hi, Thought I'd tell you about an Irish folk singer that you might enjoy listening to. Look on KZbin for Anne Byrne. She was an Irish folk singer who had albums out in the 1960's. Here are the four songs for Anne Byrne to look up on YT. "The Croppy Boy" "Fiona" "Lilly of the West" "The Foggy Dew" (that she sings with Jesse Owens.) There are some other females named Anne Byrne on KZbin - but they are different people - not the same Anne Byrne who sings the above listed songs.

Lumps and Bumps Me too. It's lovely, but a bit intense for a lullaby. I'm seriously questioning Bertrand & Beatrice's parenting.

I think it is worth noting here that this song inspired the film of the same title. Or perhaps I should say book. Patrick McCabe penned both. Both the film and the book grasp the song. And yet...go so far so far

@michaelfinn523812 жыл бұрын
the way the song is written its sounds Irish, maybe it was wrote in England but i would be amazed if it wasnt by Irish emigrants over there if thats the case, just to read the song and not sing it or listen to it, it reminds me of other irish songs
@burntoak93773 жыл бұрын
A lot of "Irish" songs are in fact English. When the Dubliners and others popularised them people took it to mean the songs are Irish. For example "Dirty Old Town" is a song by Englishman Ewan MacColl about an English town Salford. The original words to this lovelly ballard had "In London City" in the first verse.
@martini3524 Жыл бұрын
I'm Irish. This to me is a very typical English folksong. We mistake many English songs, hornpipes, jigs, sea-chanties etc as Irish.
@folkmusicgirl12 жыл бұрын
Don't know if you might have any information about this or not but I heard that Mary Black's husband owned to rights to all of Anne Byrne's music and would not allow any of the albums Anne recorded in the 60's to be re-released on CDs' I am a hugh fan of Anne Byrne's and have most of her LP's. Would love to get in touch with Anne - even if just to let her know that her music has meant so much to me. Thanks!

Check Out Sinead O'Connor's Version Of This Song. It's AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's Posted With The Lyrics, Which Slightly Differ From This Original Version . Sinead Recorded It For The Movie Butcher Boy That Came Out In The Late 90's. It Was Directed By Neil Jordan. Sinead Plays The Virgin Mary In The Movie- PURE GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
