The difference is that these guys are more than half decent at their instruments. I can't really speak on behalf of guitarists as i'm only learning, but speaking as a drummer, Ben Hall is one of the top metal/rock drummers in Australia along with Lucius from Cog and Virgil Donati. Listen to his drumming on the song 'without wings'... nice groove, fits perfectly. He's no Danny Carey but he stands his own.

@stylst i can guarentee you it is live, the vocal track on the recorded version is slightly different with the pronounciations of certain words etc.... eg the bit around 1:28 ish is not like the recording, but all the same, they are incredible live!

I don't think being on-key should be something that is worshiped so much as something that is generally accepted as being necessary in most cases. He still has no range, and a very unoriginal voice. I don't think it takes being "evocative" to sell records so you shouldn't try to make the argument that popularity is any kind of indication of anything more than people being simplistic. Yes though, not everything has to be technical, but it should have something beyond conforming to every trend.
