It’s not the light sensor dimming everything, it’s the maps and geolocation. It’s the same mechanism as google maps on your phone switching to dark mode in a tunnel or under a bridge.

I would be absolutely shocked if you were right about this. I'm not saying you're wrong (I don't know), but to be able to geo-locate with such precision and then also bother to dim the screen just for going under a bridge seems like a stretch. If anyone else can confirm how this is done, I would be interested in learning more.

@@evsmarts I can bet money that this is the case. If you know where the ambient light sensor is, you can saturate it with your camera's flashlight while going through a tunnel and then observe if the lights still dim. The GPS sensor itself doesn't need to be super precise because it is able to deduce with pretty good accuracy based on your speed when you will hit that bridge over you. There is also delay there for the screens to light back up after you exit the area with the bridge over you.

It's also not that hard to do the dimming once all of your car runs via a computer. It's probably 5 lines of code to accomplish that once you have a deep integration with the map provider.

Very interesting feature if this is the case. I wouldn’t have designed it that way! 😆
