It’s pointless unless you become deeply human again. I like that. Being brought up by Buddhist parents, I would regularly hear that karma isn’t random, though, and that my actions in the present very much dictate my future experiences. My mother would even point to disabled people and say that they had been ‘bad in a past life’. I like the randomness perspective better.

When we look at other people, we are not seeing ourselves. We are seeing dream characters. When we look at ourself, we see a dream character. The characters have no free will. The characters dont choose whether they will respond with compassion or not. If they have been conditioned to do so, they will. If not, they wont. We are infinite consciousness witnessing the dream of life. We do not control the dream of life. Whatever is destined to happen will happen. Whatever is destined to not happen, wont happen. You are still identified with the character you are observing. You still believe yourself to be a person who is making choices and who has responsibility to make the proper choices.

To deny the character completely has nothing to do with spirituality, it’s nihilism. The character, the human is important. If you’re beating your wife and saying “oh well just conditioning” you’ve gone down a deep dark nihilistic path that isn’t found in advaita or Buddhism.

There are these contemporary philosophers who have come up in the last 10 years or so, thinking about religion again, acknowledging the wisdom and mystery traditions, while also taking reason very seriously. Its partly a convergence between thinkers related to Ken Wilber and other integral thinkers like Jean Gebser, but an updated version, so to speak, and partly consciously departing from intergral theory and what some of them call 'metamodernism'. I find the most interesting in that loosely connected 'movement' (sometimes refered to as the liminal web) are people like Bruce Alderman, Bonnitta Roy, Scout Wiley, Owen Cox, O.G.Rose, Cadell Last and more. Many of them conceptualize the inherent contradictions of conceptuality itself, integrating it with it's practicality, aknowledging both the relevance and the imposibility of thought and identity, in every sense of the word. So, those are sort of the opposite of spiritual bypassing.

What’s that book you told about? “At the end of the world”? Can you also type in the name of the author too please for me? 😊 This thought of what is the worth of my enlightenment if I can’t deal with my toxic work environment came to my mind today. I wanted to stay put in my same toxic work culture unless I learn the lesson and grow from here. Nothing changed on the outside but everything on the inside because I found my passion again. And now since my passion was giving my love back into my life and my spiritual progress and the toxic environment was not improving either, I was torn between my mental wish to just quit it and my self saying me to stay here as am not done with my anger and fear. I know it will be an easy way out if I quit and will get my attainment as I will be happy again. But then I felt, it is worthless to attain like this anyway. That’s where I got this video in my feed 😊

As much as I do understand it, it also pleads people free from accountabiliy. People who do their healingwork make the concious choice to do so. They may have also lived horroble childhoods, but that does not mean they also turned into killers or cruel people. I dont see how we can hold the value of self responsibility/accountability and the idea that people are the victim of their circumstances. One is an empowering mindset and the other is very disempowering and a justification for shitty behaviour.
