This is a chilling, compelling track, no wonder The Byrds were so important.

I think this is a Crosby composition. One of his finest. Very touching, I lived through that Vietnam era. What a horrible nightmare it was!
@robertmccutcheon46726 жыл бұрын
It was an uncompleted song by Crosby. He was fired from the Byrds and then McGuinn and Hillman polished it up a bit, added some new words and claimed co-authorship.

It's Crosby's song. RM & CH claimed co credit after they fired him.Classless.

This song was what I played at 5 AM on the day I had to go to my Draft Physical and was I in Fear. I love the Byrds and this particular song exactly brings back my feelings and thoughts on that morning.

David Crosby wrote it, but they recorded it after they fired him, and apparently didn't remember all of his original lyrics, so added some of their own. I was drafted in 1971 upon graduating high school. (Yeah, I'm old, shut up.) I avoided Vietnam by successfully re-registering as a Conscientious Objector. (Yeah, I used to be a guy, shut up.) My favorite anti-draft song was "Draft Resister" by Steppenwolf, from their great album, Monster.

From back in the day, when I grew up the Byrds were big medicine in my bedroom. I have always said that the Beatles and the Byrds had the best harmonizing voices of classic rock. Well, that is my opinion.

The Byrds did the best two-part harmonies hands down. Muli-part harmony of course goes to The Beach Boys (though I think The Zombies at times gave them a run for their money)

Too bad there are so many amazing songs in 60's yet almost all of them tend to be so short.

The live shows held the real gold. Albums were just marketing back in those days. The Beatles changed the face of album sales when they stopped touring and focused on studio work. Same with the Beach Boys when Brian had his breakdown... top music charts were just a means to gauge who was going to fill the room.
@GoatDust5 жыл бұрын
@@collapsiblechair9112 have you seen the album lengths of some of the songs in this album lol
@NowhereMan75 жыл бұрын
@@asyncawaited This was released after the Beatles stopped touring. The Grateful dead also released weak album in the late 60s but were legendary as a live act. Also The Beatles concerts ran not much longer than 20 minutes sometimes and even they could barely hear themselves over the screaming.
