Thank you so much, I was just only 7yrs old when this was done, but this music was the background to my life and I miss it so much. The 8 tracks and the drives through the south with my family. I know where the Byrds are and I wish they knew where I was. Release that stuff in the can now while your fans are still alive! God Bless

Fantastic lineup of the post- crosby byrds. John York on Bass and Harmonie vocals made Thema very a Tide Unit . Clarence is unbelievable as ever. Thanks a lot for these historical documents . This is magical

Wow, the Dr. Byrds lineup! They sound tighter live than the Skip Battin lineup IMO. The vocals sound great! Thanks for posting this.

Information: This took place at The Newport 69 Festival (not to be confused with the Newport Jazz festival) at Devonshire Downs in Northridge, California. The Byrds, who had performed at the previous year's Newport Pop Festival, performed on Sunday, June 22, 1969 with a line-up including Roger McGuinn, John York, Clarence White and Gene Parsons. Their latest LP was Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde which had come out the previous March. -- all of this gleaned off the Interwebs, friends. Enjoy.

On this day in 1968 {May 11th} the Byrds performed the Bob Dylan song "You Ain't Going Nowhere" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'... And on that very same day it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #74 and spent 5 weeks on the Top 100... Sadly, two members of the band have left us; Gene Clark died on May 24th, 1991 at the age of 46 and Michael Clarke on December 19th, 1993 at age 47... R.I.P. Mr. Clark, Mr. Clarke, and Dick Clark {1929 - 2012}...

Sing me back home an old Merle Haggard song. Probably something they learned from or with Gram Parsons. He was a big Merle fan and hung out with Clarence a lot. Sad to think what those two could have done for country and rock had they lived.

The 3 songs featured are: Merle Haggard's "Sing me back home" (never recorded by The Byrds); Bob Dylan's "You ain't going nowhere" from The Basement Tapes (available on The Byrds'"Sweetheart of the Rodeo"); "Old Blue" (trad.) from "Dr. Byrds And Mr. Hyde".

Great to see John York on bass. The cleanest lineup of the post Byrds-Byrds.

Yes, I agree with you . John York was just the right replacement for Crosby and hillman in one person. Skip battin was a great musician but brought a much funkier style to the Byrds that was sometimes a bit too loose to the live performances, in my opinion.

I was at this concert! Wow, I never ever thought I'd see this. Anybody else at this concert. Hendrix...OMG!..... he just shows up and jams for three hours..... The most amazing day of music. I loved the Byrds.....Poco was also at this show along with Johnny Winter And, The Chambers Brothers, Three Dog Night, The Grass Roots, Marvin Gaye, Booker T and the MG's and......The Rascals (amazing). And I think it cost me $8.00. Do you have any other footage?

This is TOP McGuinn and company! Roger's at his best, and Clarence is, as always, the best he can be. It's a pity that McGuinn currently is good, but not like in his younger days. Some musicians age well like fine wine, and their talents ripen with age...but with Roger it just ain't happening. His current Sweetheart of the Rodeo tour, while good, just doesn't have that energy as displayed in this vid. Maybe if Clarence was still around McGuinn would have chosen a better display (meaning attitude) instead of going through the motions as he is now. I speak for myself!
