The roots of Byzantine music is back in our ancient Greeks. The ancient Greeks were talkinglike in a singing way.... that's why in ancient Greek we have "δασειες", βαρειες" etc. Oh God! I feel so blessed that I've born and raised Orthodox, in this holy land, Greece, where everywhere I stand a Saint died, where we speak the language of Truth! Θεε μου δινε μας δυναμη να σε ομολογούμε, οπως εκαναν οι Μάρτυρες. Κύριε φώτισον το σκώτος μου 😢 Δοξασμένο το Όνομά Σου εις τους αιώνας! Αμήν!

You are blessed! Don’t take it for granted dear sister in Christ. Many of us who’s people once had the light of Holy Orthodoxy wish it hadn’t been lost to our ancestry. But some of us are blessed to rediscover the ancient Path and rejoice in God’s provision! The Greek language is beautifully nuanced and ideal for unpacking scripture.

amazing. now that i think of it, even this the muslims copied from christianity. their ''call to prayer'' is a chant very similar to orthodox chanting.

Please if anyone can direct me to more information about the controversy of homophonic vs harmonized singing I would be grateful. I have noticed some of the saints talk about how they personally are distracted by harmonized singing. Others say the contrary. Where can I listen to the two types, if like to see which I prefer.
