Ask yourself one question then why were there some Pharisees there who heard the same message and said they thought they were drunk also how did Peter get up and speak multiple languages or dialects at once what would that have sounded like and yes there are lots I don't think it's possible to count how many examples of the gift of tongues in a sense of you speaking people outside hear this weird gibberish sound but the other person understands it it's called the gift of interpretation God uses this as a tool as he sees fit I think the real question is what would a person get out of for faking it and yes there is a personal prayer language If you actually study your Bible they're different examples of unknown tongues unknown languages praying and unknown languages and multiple church letters and it's not just Acts that's just the one that people like to bring up the most I think everyone should read all the epistles in their entirety before they make a decision or not they may be shocked also if you study church fathers like origin Ignatius polycarp cyprian and you read in-depth not just a glance I think people will be very shocked at what they find you could actually trace accounts from first century all the way to John Alexander dowie the person who started the apostolic Catholic denomination which was a Pentecostal break off of the Catholic Church in the late 1800s

The west has gone the way of Sodom, Gomorrah, Pompeii. That notwithstanding, there's no need to romanticize the history of Christian marriage. In the OT, King David committed adultery with Bathsheba; in the NT, Herod Antipas illegally married Herodias. Christ Himself sternly warned - the people - about adultery in thought (Mt. 5:28), and in Orthodox Tsarist Russia, husbands get drunk and beat their wives _all the time._ Fact check it if you like. I prefer the Roman Catholic view of marriage: it is a sacrament and a *vocation* (between a man and a woman).

Maybe I am I alone in feeling this - but why there is something unsettling / uncanny about all of this California / new North America orthodoxy? I cannot explain what is wrong with it exactly, but it gives me this weird feeling, like something is off. Just cannot put it into words. Like there is a bit of the American psychosis baked in it, I do not know how to say it really. Other orthodox communities do not have this vibe.

Its interesting because i do know the bible not perfectly but probably better then the average laymen and then i also know history also, better then the average protestant it has nothing to do with my heart. Which is why i know about the gross idolatry and pagan mixture that is in most churches. Orthodox catholic and protestant alike, let alone cults like the LDS. I pray for the coming of the man-child church for then i know my lord is coming, in truth his hand is in the lock. May we be ready.

I do believe speaking in heavenly languages has been grossly misrepresented. Now, tongues for intercession, like any other gift can only happen if you are sprirt-filled after you have accepted Jesus as your Messiah. I must clarify that you can be spirit-filled and saved without this sign (there is a protestant sect that believes otherwise to thier shame). I was granted this gift of intercession when i was spirit-filled at the age of 5. I intercede and labor in private in my heavenly language by the moving of Yahweh's Holy Spirit, as is the way the Bible puts forth. I am sure there are pretenders as there are with anything. But speaking in heavenly tongues for intercession is real and beautiful, just like any of the other gifts, and should not be feared.

I’ve never understood the trinity. First of all it was voted into effect hundreds of years after Christ’s death, that’s weird. Second it claims all three are actually one when multiple times in the NT, Christs baptism or the transfiguration to name just two we have all three in different places. Lastly Christ tells the apostles to be one as he is one with his father. The apostles are not literally one, as Christ is inferring he is not literally one with his father

I don’t know… I’ve always been told that if we venerate icons it’s because they’re like windows open to the Kingdom, so in this aspect them being 2D is quite important. And kissing a statue would feel… Weird, to me. Having statues as decorations, sure, no problem at all for me, but it’s a typical catholic thing to only see icons as decorative objects, while they are so much more… At least 2D icons, I guess.

some Orthodox here thinks everything in the world HAS TO worship in one two very specific rites belonging to specific regions otherwise they aren't Orthodox. Get off of your high horse and have some humbleness in life. Not only is there not a single priest that would cherish such idea, what you are saying goes extremely against the early Church. For western orthodoxy, I think Anglican architecture could be used as they preserved the church rod customs further and still have churches that make use of them. Icons of western style (pre-renaissance) could be utilized. I am unconfortable with the Sanctuary being out in the open to that degree. Other than that, beautiful, May God bless you.

Are Christians who believe in a doctrine that renders half the Bible nonsensical, Christians? Yes, the trinity doctrine is completely nonsensical. The difference between Mormons and other Christians is Mormons believe the Bible while the others do not. How many did Stephen see when he looked into heaven and saw Jesus standing on the right hand of God? One or two? If you say one, you don't believe the Bible. See Acts 7:54-55

That’s the flaw in orthodoxy: it isn’t adaptable. Paul became a Jew that he might when a Jew; he became a gentile that he might win one. What’s a trip to be is that God literally expelled demonic spirits tormenting Saul when David played the harp. So what if “men created them?” Men created the icons you have in the church, the candles you light, and the building you guys worship in. There is a reason why instruments have the ability to create melody. These earthly realities that reflect heavenly realities. They have their origin from God.

I am a Protestant Christian, but I have had discussions with LDS members. My understanding is that LDS People believe that Lord Jesus Christ is not GOD in the flesh, but instead they believe that Jesus is the "spirit brother" of Lucifer. LDS People also believe in "exaltation" or "eternal progression"; they imply that human beings can eventually achieve "Godhood" in heaven and that God did not just create mankind in His image but that God was also once a man who become became "exalted". LDS members seem to imply that men, angels, and God are essentially the same species, which is NOT what traditional Christians believe. As a Protestant Christian, I do not believe that Lucifer and Lord Jesus Christ are *"spirit brothers."* I believe that Lord Jesus Christ IS God in the flesh, which is part of the deity of Christ...meaning that Jesus is eternal, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, and immutable. Jesus is worshipped as God because the *Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit are all the SAME God.*
@michaelnicholas55877 сағат бұрын
Your answer has more spin on it than a high-speed blender. I think you severely misunderstood LDS people if you think that we do not believe that Jesus is God in the flesh. First off, does Jesus have a spirit and a body? Of course he does. Does Jesus have a Father? Does Lucifer have a Father? If so, then Jesus and Lucifer are spiritual brothers. What do you think we are doing here? Why would God send us here to go through all sorts of trials and refining fires if he didn't want us to become like him? If God the Father is only spirit, then what is the purpose of the Holy Ghost? Why couldn't the Father just take care of all of the spiritual stuff? It makes no sense.
