Back in the 1990s one of these took my outfit consisting of four 18 wheel tractor trailers and one 5-ton troop truck. That troop truck was loaded with eleven big reels of differing sized cables. Once all the cables were deployed and all the parts of the 18 wheelers were set up, we had about 14 miles of cables. The parking inside the plane was so tight that there were only several inches of clearance between the truck trailers and the inside of the planes walls. The Air Force people were incredibly talented in how they directed us to back in through the raised nose of this beast of a plane. We had to get each axle of each truck weighed at the air base to ensure proper weight distribution. I know we had well over 200,000 pounds of trucks and equipment. Everything was chained down so tightly and completely, I think if the airplane could have been flown upside down, I think none of those trucks would move at all. Just my imagination at what all those chains were capable of holding. A few weeks later a few more C-5s transported the rest of our equipment to a drop off point in Northern Europe. From the drop off we unloaded our fueled vehicles and drive the rest of the way. An amazing aircraft. The nose lifts up while at the same time the front of the plane can be lowered so that the loading ramp incline was not so drastic, making loading without scraping against any part of the plane a lot easier. I hope you enjoyed that little tale. It took weeks to get everything prepared and all night to load the planes. It the back section of the plane up high over the cargo and near the ceiling were about 50 seats where we sat and slept while in flight.

While fishing Frenchmeadows 33 miles east of Forrest hill California this aircraft came in from the mouth of the river and flew very low all the way to the Dam , it was so beautiful.

I would have liked if the video lasted a few more seconds to be able to see how the tire smoke dissipates and is moved around the body of the plane by the draft coming off the wings and winglets. A beautiful plane.

30 years ago, a public relations type for Ocean City, Maryland arranged a fly by on the beach on a Saturday with either a C-5 or C-17 from Dover AFB. My sister and I were parking around 60th Street when this massive aircraft bore down on us. The only hitch was that the PR girl forgot to inform her superiors and consequently, the public! She no longer works for OC, MD

A C-17 from Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst overflew my home in August 2021. It did so a few times. It was one time I did not have access to my phone or any camera at all. Each time I'd thought, 'Well, that has to be the final pass' it flew over again. If someone had a plumb bob hanging from the plane it would have hit me in the center of my head. The bank angle was impressive as was the sight and sound of it. I'd guess that the aircraft was well-under 2000 feet.
