The Cable Guy (Jim Carrey) antagonizes Steven (Matthew Broderick) at the county jail.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Originally planned as a silly vehicle for Chris Farley, in the hands of director Ben Stiller and star Jim Carrey, The Cable Guy became an opportunity for Carrey to flex some of his darker comedic muscles as stalker Chip Douglas. Matthew Broderick plays Steven, an average Joe who is forlorn over his recent breakup with girlfriend Robin (Leslie Mann). When he moves into a new apartment, Steven comes in contact with Chip, who shows up to hook up the cable. Before he knows it, and whether he likes it or not, Steven has a new best-friend in the obnoxious and clingy Chip. However, Steven soon learns that obnoxious is a walk in the park compared to Chip's behavior when Steven tells him he doesn't want to be his pal anymore. What's worse, no one -- including Robin or his family -- believes Steven when he accuses the seemingly harmless Chip of being a malevolent menace. George Segal and Jack Black also star along with Stiller, who plays twins loosely-based on the Menendez brothers.

I think i know why people weren't ready for a dark Jim Carrey comedy at the time. The film was gonna be a lighter comedy with Chris Farley in the title role, but when Ben Stiller singed up to direct the film, he changed the tone, added in dark psychological humor, and casted Carrey after Farley turned it down due to scheduling conflicts.

This scene is near and dear to my heart. When this movie came out, my son was 3 years old. They showed the "Ohhhhhh, BILLLLLLY" segment on the TV commercials advertising this movie constantly. My son, who did watch TV often when he was 3 apparently took all this in, because one day we were at a bbq at my friend's house. Me, my friend, and a couple others were chatting in the kitchen when one of the guys says "Uh.....what is that kid doing over there???" I turned around and there was my 3 year old son standing outside at the slider door with his shirt up, his nipple pressed against the glass and you can see him mouthing "Ohhhhhhhh, BILLLLLY!!!!" as he did. Needless to say, we all fell down laughing and you can't imagine how proud I was of my boy! He's 28 and married now and we still talk about that day fondly. lol

Good observation…. I remember watching Jim Carrey, as the token White Guy, on a TV show, In Living Color. I remember his ‘Fire Marshall Bill’ character. I laughed but was also always scared he’d set himself on fire any second! ILC only ran for a couple seasons, I think. I remember thinking that Carrey seemed to have no boundaries, and also was extremely funny in a Twilight Zone sort of way!

Also he is showing a guilty expression right after Steven says,"You set me up!,(looking dead on at Steven)This is a clear sign that he is feeling guilty for setting up Steven for jail time by giving him electronic goods that he KNEW were stolen and then calling the cops on poor innocent Steven who honestly had no idea that Chip STOLE the electronics and then gave them to him. :) He continues for a few seconds avoiding eye contact with Steven by staring straight at the phone receiver while talking to Steven. He has a smug face but is avoiding eye contact.(No, I taught you")He is feeling guilty but still feeling smug about getting innocent Steven thrown in jail. A couple of seconds later, he is now facing Steven directly with a huge smug expression(A lesson I can be your best friend or your worst enemy. You seem to prefer the latter).. It is clear that he is over his few seconds of guilt and is completely smug now. He does do a slightly guilty expression again when he puts his hand out for Steven to touch through the glass(Touch it, you need human contact). When Steven refuses to touch his hand through the glass, Chip goes into troll mode and begins acting like Steven's gay lover and presses his nipple against the glass divider to make Steven look gay to cause even more trouble for him. He then stops pretending to be gay and smugly says,"I'm just messing with you and makes a quip about Midnight Express movie. He gives a menancing expression and tone when he mentions Robin. "Don't worry, Steven about Robin. I'll take good care of her." Steven threatens to kill Chip if he goes anywhere near Robin. Steven is pulled away from the divider by the guard, and Chip has a troubled, guilty expression on his face. (This concludes our broadcasting day). So many emotions in this one scene! :D

@@andresitomaderajr5693 In Steven's defense, he didn't know Chip was a Psychopath and a stalker when he first agreed to be his Friend for free cable. In fact, he only learned that Chip had stalked multiple cable customers at the end of the movie.
