Hi everyone and welcome to the final episode of The Cactus Grafting Trilogy.
The 2018/2019 growing season turned out to be one of the most succseful in my cactus growing journey.
I never expected when I started grafting for the season that I would end up where I did.
Many varieties of cacti were grafted this season including Lophophora, Trichocereus, Astrophytum, Ariocarpus, Gymnocalycium and many many more!
The coming years will be incredibly exciting as I watch these baby cacti grow into mature plants.
I am so happy I get to share this experience with you all and can't wait to see your grafting results as well.
Thank you for watching and of course.... Happy Gardening!

grafting onto pereskiopsis is very rewarding. its fascinating to see how the seedlings will grow. i'm amazed that some Astrophytum will pup when so small. those will be interesting plants when degrafted matured/flowering on their own roots after 10 years. to have them pup like that whilst the apical meristem is still alive, meaning without hot nailing the meristem to induce pupping. they'll be more interesting in the long run.

How on earth did you come up with that much Pereskiopsis???? That is some dedication

Thanks man, Basically every time you cut pereskiopis it produces shoots, must be some kind of chemical trigger within the plant. You don't need big cuttings to make shoots so it is very easy to produce large amounts of stock. Happy Gardening!

When you go to place the scion on to the pere... Is the pere rooted and growing, or do you cut the pere then plant and graft onto it in the same day?

I haven't done the final count just yet as some have still not confirmed good union. I expect to end up on or around 600. The rows go 11 back, can't recall how many I fit across the length of the table. Thanks for watching & Happy Gardening!

Good lord, you’ve been a busy man! Congrats on all these, they look wonderful! I just wish you were in the U.S. to swap a few plants lol I just cracked about 20 baggies open the other day, you’ve inspired me here to try grafting out, if I would just stop buying cactus and order up some grafting stock. You’re on a mission why not shoot for 1200, gonna have to buy a bigger greenhouse sooner then later.

Thank you! I like grafting to Pereskiopsis as it is easy to produce large numbers of them in a short amount of time. So happy to hear you've decided to try grafting. Just be patient , it takes time to perfect your style. Good luck & please keep me posted! Happy Gardening!

Pereskiopsis likes to be hot and well watered. If temps stay above 10c then they should only be allowed to partially dry between water for best growth rates.

All my micrografts on pereskiopsis the scion get to the size of a pea and never gets bigger no matter what type of scion (i tried gymnos and astros). I eventually have to regraft them after 2 years of the graft on dragon fruit or any other rootstock. Is this something familiar?

You can occasionaly get stalling but this is very uncommon, might need to increase food and water for the stock.
