Hey man. Awesome work! I want to know species name at 3:07. Lobivia Janjoina pauchicaustata?
@traceyst.johnwood99092 ай бұрын
So are you letting these grow their own roots or regrafting these? I am struggling with knowing what needs to be degrafted, regrafted or just let continue on 🤪
@87walkerАй бұрын
Yes, these are a full degraft. Complete removal of grafting stock and will grow on own roots now. All have been successful.

I know it’s an older video, don’t know if you still look at your comments. But how long do you recommend the cactus to sit in a micro pot before i can repot it in its normal pot? In the same season? Or should i wait until next season in spring time? I have a huge cactus cutting waiting to dry up so i can put it in a pot to grow roots. Would be great to get an answer. Thank you ❤
@87walker2 ай бұрын
Hey! I usually pot up cuttings in spring / during active growth. Wont hurt it to sit in a micro pot for a little longer if it's not actively growing. If you have good root formation you can pot it up into its normal pot.

@@87walker thank you very much for your reply. Now i feel a little bit safer 😋 its my first cutting. Its 16-20 cm in diameter and about 110 cm tall. I am really scared that it gets rotting, or some other issues

Watching your KZbin channel, we have an apartment in Spain. I’ve acquired lots of cactuses by picking them from dumpsters and propagating them, I’ve gone slightly overboard the amount I’ve got

grafting onto pereskiopsis is very rewarding. its fascinating to see how the seedlings will grow. i'm amazed that some Astrophytum will pup when so small. those will be interesting plants when degrafted matured/flowering on their own roots after 10 years. to have them pup like that whilst the apical meristem is still alive, meaning without hot nailing the meristem to induce pupping. they'll be more interesting in the long run.

All my micrografts on pereskiopsis the scion get to the size of a pea and never gets bigger no matter what type of scion (i tried gymnos and astros). I eventually have to regraft them after 2 years of the graft on dragon fruit or any other rootstock. Is this something familiar?
@87walker2 ай бұрын
You can occasionaly get stalling but this is very uncommon, might need to increase food and water for the stock.
@DFJA014 ай бұрын
Wow, what a beautiful collection. I'm just getting started with Astrophytum (all from seed) and have a number of fairly small seedlings, and right now just one grafted seedling that has done very well. One question - you mentioned you don't like using buried stock. I was wondering this is just a personal choice or if there are some technical disadvantages to using this technique. I've just buried my first stock because the Trichocereus Taquimbalensis scion had grown too big for the Pereskiopsis stock to support it. I know that's somewhat different from your situation, but I'm keeping a close eye on it in case the stock rocks or something else goes wrong.
@87walker2 ай бұрын
If buried stock dies, you will only know when the scion is well past dead. If stock is exposed and starts to die, you can, more often than not save the scion. That is the reason I don't use it.

My LW graft has rotted. Is there anyway I can save it?
@87walker4 ай бұрын
Potentially. Start cutting away the rot until you find tissue that isn't infected with rot. Check out my latest de-grafting video, might be some useful info in there.

Wonderful video! Curious to what soil mix I should use once I move my large cutting to its permanent home ;)
@87walker4 ай бұрын
You would use the same soil mix that you would use if it were a regular cactus. I like to add a bit more perlite for their first pot up, helps with roots and temperature stabilization.

yeap, this is an Echinopsis Subdenudata and the flowers are citrusy scented! Those with the wind flowing that strong as in the video i would assume it would be hard to smell. 😂

Thanks for such a nice brief individual presentation videos of your flowering cacti! I think this one is a Thelocactus Bicolor ssp Schwarzii. I have tried obtaining seeds online of that variety with no luck yet in Europe (through the salers of Succseed and Khoeres Kakteen). I have gotten seeds from other Thelocactus Bicolor varieties, whose flowers are similar, but the spines are pokier than those of the "schwarzii" subespicies or variety, in which the spines look shorter (with no pointing long central spine in each areol). Note: I know this video is 6 yo, but just in case someone else is discovering your channel in 2023, I add this comment in case someone could find it to be useful 😊
