I am completely shocked by how TOUGH project liftoff is. It's impressive tech, but being able to take those hits and not flinch is impressive.

and still keeping control after all that. Most of that type can barely drive toward the opponent when fresh.

That was the most impressive fight I have ever seen. The battle hardening of that bot is insane. Taking that many hits, being launched all over. Truly impressive. First full body spinner I see that is actually durable!
@jamesragsdale3069 Жыл бұрын
@@thorwaldjohanson2526 There's a couple sizes of it now. And out there absolutely slamming.
@Leto_09 ай бұрын
Maybe this is a problem with smaller weight classes and improving material sciences. We seem to have already reached max dmg output but the durability will keep going up. The smaller the bot, the harder to produce enough dmg, buy a smaller size doesn't reduce durability of the material
@jamesragsdale30699 ай бұрын
@@Leto_0there's answers. A good clamp could grab then and them down and do whatever. But you gotta be tough enough to even try that.
@NoTengoIdeaGuey2 жыл бұрын
Since lift off has the high speed spin every time it gets hit it goes straight upwards because it's stabilized by the gyroscopic effect. Most other bots would probably go flipping and arc away from the hit, while these guys absorb all the energy and take it straight up vertically.
@baalfgames5318 Жыл бұрын
I feel like Melty-Brain spinners have a few advantages over other full-body spinners. They have an easier time driving, and are usually able to drive upside down. Plus, less parts needed to hold them together allows melty-brain spinners to be more stable. The one downside to MBSs over other FBS, though, is that they can't drive will spinning, nor can they spin while driving, unlike other FBSs. In a way, MBSs are kind of a combination between FBSs and horizontal thwack-bots like Blade Runner or Gold Digger. Honestly, though, I'm kinda surprised Battlebots doesn't have any MBSs. Right now, there's only two FBSs, but neither are melty-brains.
@Cyromantik Жыл бұрын
@@baalfgames5318 That's a pretty good insight! Also I didn't know about the specific nomenclature so it was educational too!
@baalfgames5318 Жыл бұрын
@@Cyromantik There's also Ring Spinners, which are kind of a combination of FBS and MBS that have most of the advantages MBSs have over FBSs except for durability.
@Frosty_tha_Snowman Жыл бұрын
Simplified: the energy from a full body spinner is being transferred to a stable object, being the robots chassis, where in a melty brain, all of the entire body's momentum is going in the same direction, so there's no transfer of energy back into itself. Kind of the same concept between a spinner with a 250mph tip speed vs 175mph - you transfer the entirety of the energy from your weapon to the other bot, rather than transferring most of it, and also a significant portion into your own bot. For example: you have 100 bits of energy generated from your 100 mph tip speed, right? So you think going up to 200 would make 200 bits of energy - and it does, but instead of doing 200 bits of damage to your opponent, you do the same 100 bits of damage to them, and are doing 100 bits of damage to yourself, because the energy transfer is so great. That's a loose example, though.. and this comment is no longer simplified.

Based on Eruption losing one drive side and project liftoff not having any noticeable damage I would have to give it to project lift off. It is also amazing how much project liftoff has improved in the last few years. The speed at which it can regain control and spin up after those big hits is astounding.

This was basically my first time seeing the actual concept of a melty brain and I always look out for Project Liftoff fights. It looks deceptively simple in construction, though I have learned just how much it takes to get a melty brain working properly, so full kudos to the team on that.

DMG - PJL (eruption gave all noticeable dmage) CTL - PJL (both with mini bot, and eruption getting hung up on arena damage, they were able to capitalize most of the time) AGR - IDK split? eruption had more succesful agro early on, and liftoff mostly took over in the later half once eruption had drive issues that made it more difficult for them to engage)

Control goes to PL? Were you not watching when Eruption got all those hits? Aggression also definitely goes to Eruption, as PL mostly hesitated to hit when it had the chance.
@heartofdawnlight Жыл бұрын
@@BigFatWedge okay so for control, PJL got a number of pins via, their minibot, and even managed to get eruption stuck on environmental hazards that were broken light fixtures.... eruption only had control of PJL for a few seconds, and after that they were trying to get their footing back which they couldnt do before half thier drive was shot and it got further from their favor. & a thing to think about is (at least im pretty sure) pinning and waiting to attack isnt a negative for agression.... not a positive either until they hit, but bots shouldnt lose agro cause they succeed a pin, if thats what theyre made to do (which the minibot was)..... But also PJL is a melty brain, sometimes the movement just looks hesitant when youre trying to get it to move in a particular way
