This Is Havoc: Episode 8 - Droopy the Thicc Boi.
He's Droopy, he shows up, he has fun, he wrecks robots, he feels terrible about it and then goes home with golden dumpsters and thousands of dollars.
Droopy is the robot built by Tommy Wong that's broken Lynx's weapon not twice, but thrice! (Lynx is widely considered the greatest 3lb bot on the planet).
It's a truly unconventional robot that is seemingly unbeatable.

The whole meta is turning into exclusively these kinds of bots because they get a maximum weight bonus since they dont have wheels or tracks. Its honestly pretty sad... Its like throwing 2 angle grinders in a box and shaking them until one of them stops running, its just boring.

My favorite thing about that whole tournament was watching Droopy fight, and then looking at all the Brazilians' comments in the chat, and I just kept seeing the word "Capoeira." And... yeah. Exactly. Droopy is a capoeirista.

I kind of want to see a bigger version of this design. I'm curious if the weight bonus non-wheeled's get would make it more viable, or if the amount of time a scaled up version took to spin up fast enough for mobility would defeat the point.

Droopy needs a saw like structure under his feet (and opoosite side), which has increased resistence sliding in one direction. So it could walk quicker forwards, because the leg sticks in one direction only... much faster movement and more control, less timeouts

I think it has to do with how Droopy moves; unless I'm misunderstanding something, using a locomotion method other than regular wheels (and thus keeping things interesting) allows the builder a little extra weight. Depth Charge, for instance, falls into the same category. It uses bristle drive, using vibrations to move around the box (whenever it's not catapulting itself around with weapon-on-floor action). So because Droopy uses gyroscopic motion to move rather than wheels, he's allowed a little extra weight compared to wheeled bots.

It really isnt fair... They get to remove a lot of weight since they dont need a dedicated propulsion system, and then they get an extra added maximum weight bonus to slap onto the already oversized weapon system.

I dont think 2 barely controllable angle grinders shuffling around until they hit each other is very exciting. Some of the designs are pretty interesting like Project Liftoff, but even that is pretty boring to watch during a fight, The technical details are more exciting in my opinion.

@@SirHorned19 Droopy has the speed and maneuverability of a Parkinson's patient. As Tommy themselves point out, Droopy can ONLY win based on damage. Droopy has no hope of winning based on aggression and control. There are control bots, made largely of TPU, that could probably beat Droopy. Wedge-lifters could also beat Droopy in a Judges decision. The problem is lasting that 3 minutes. Droopy does well against bots that put their weight into offence rather than defense.

This little guy would be eaten alive if it was a real BattleBot 😂. These cute little toy competitions are cute and all......but let me know when Droopy enters in the real ring with real robots :) :). Riptide would absolutely destroy Droopy 😂......as would any of the real BattleBots 😂

Literally like 10+ people in the video are on active Battlebots teams, they all know what real robots look like. Plus if Droopy was allowed to have it's weight bonus and didn't have a weapon blade weight limit it would absolutely murder a lot of Battlebots. It'd be like 2 Tritons but with no exposed wheels or backsides. Also Droopy literally beat Lynx in this video which is what Riptide is directly copied from.

No, droopy is not the best robot design. The fact that is lacks any genuine mode of mobility makes it a hack. Shouldn't be allowed.

Pretty sure those are just the most highlighted by NHRL. If this style of bot was the meta then it wouldn't be fighting a more standard spinner bot in both times it was in the finals. It's just a style of bot that counters the usual meta for other competitions that don't allow them, i.e. more standard spinner bots that have decent movement. And then this style would again be countered by more defensive designs that score points in aggression and control while being tough enough to take hits. Note that in fights when weapons clash with Droopy this is considered as a 'good hit from (Droopy's opponent)' rather than Droopy unless the opponent was too damaged to move properly.

@@probablygeneric429 Its honestly just the weight bonus they get that seems excessive. They have already reconfigured all the "movement weight" in the bot into pure weapon mass, then they get an additional weight bonus on top of that.
