Indeed when you look at the detailed wikipedia article about the cake dance, it was indeed a satire 😁. And when you look closely at the manner in which they did it, it was indeed satire at its finest. Mimicking the dance moves of their masters in subtle ways but in a ridiculous manner 😁😁

I heard about this for the first time today in a program on NPR about language when someone asked about the expression, “that takes the cake.” I wanted to know more about this including seeing examples of the dances. Thank you for your video!

Much respect to you for providing real and documented Black history on You Tube. I am so sick and disgusted with these frauds who mislead the people and play with their emotions with made up garbage. Keep up the good work!

This is wonderful to know. I found the Library of Congress' film first, and then came here. I believe you did a better job of using film to transcribe the knowledge of African traditions to show the contextual history of the movements. I grew up in a Pentecostal church. Many of the movements of the Ring Shout was exhibited there during religious worship. Thank you so much.

Thankyou for mentioning the tango. This is the first time i have heard of this. Any Suggestions for researching into these type of dances? Also quick note. The way you perfectly described "parody of the plantation owner". I imagine every plantation shuffle would appear unique, even able to identify one from the other. 🤯😀

I don’t understand… how did these people have slaves in the late 1800 early 1900? I’m guessing the dance continued and passed on from slaves/black folks?
