Months after the murder of George Floyd, California became the first state in the nation to form a governmental Reparations Task Force to study and develop restitution and reconciliation proposals for African Americans. In June 2023, the committee released its final report with recommendations for how the state should atone for its history of racial violence and discrimination against Black residents. The committee Chair, attorney Kamilah V. Moore, discusses the committee’s processes, findings and recommendations. Lets talk about why theres such fierce opposition to reparations. Opposition to reparations is about PRESERVING INEQUALITY AND PRESERVING WHITE PRIVALLEGE. Economic inequality is used as a tool to ensure segregation, to ensure black people can't afford to live outside of black areas, to ensure we can't afford certain schools, to ensure our businesses aren't competitive etc. The preservation of ECONOMIC INEQUALITY is to maintain black people as a permanent UNDERCLASS or at a certain level beneath everyone else . Its to maintain the social hierarchy. Even a black person who earns 6 figures can't compete for housing, business loans or business development with someone who has had opportunity for 3 generations of wealth building.

I’m sorry?? You don’t get how this works, do you? This report will be good kindling for fireplace starting this winter, but that’s about it. This is just a report, not draft legislation. With 80% of Americans AGAINST reparations, the only politicians who will go near actually having legislation drafted in connection with this are those catering exclusively to black american voters who agree with reparations…..(?). But why bother after the Supreme Court’s recent decision ending affirmative action determined that race-based legislation is violative of the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution. That means it doesn’t matter what the legislators do. Even if, by some miracle, reparations got past the legislature and was signed into law, a lawsuit with carrying an injunction would be filed immediately challenging it on constitutional grounds, which, after several years, would wind up at this Supreme Court, which has essentially already deemed it unconstitutional. It’s not going to happen. Time to move on.

The way to settle reparations demands is to work out how much a family's entire generations have earned in California since they were freed and compare it to how much they would have earned in their country of origin if they hadn't been sold into slavery by their own people. If they have earned more in California than they would have in that country then they have already been reparated. If they would have earned more in their country of origin then pay them the difference and nothing more!

Not the UN, but a “UN affiliated group” whose whole purpose was to rationalize reparations. In other words, another pointless “task force” created to placate, occupy and shut up. Sorry. The only Americans who support reparations are those who stand to profit from them (likely around 5% of the population). The numbers indicate and the law confirms, reparations is a dead issue. I think there should be an additional requirement. Those descendants of slaves who qualify should also have to prove that their ancestors never benefited from American society. So if they had a distant relative who once prospered, but listened to their money by their own actions. Additionally, recipients should have to prove their current circumstances are through no fault of their own. In other words, they have to prove they’ve done everything they, and their ancestors, could do for themselves.
