They could've implemented the Lovecraft design into experiments that got way out of hand. Apothicans could genuinely be their own entity that derived from Soviet experiments on different animals. We know the Germans attempted to make supersoldiers, hence why the zombie outbreak occurred. We know Soviets experimented with space. The Cosmic Silverback was a Soviet accident, so the Apothican could've easily been the same thing - such as deformed sea creatures that went rogue. It keeps the simplicity of a cold war between nations that wanted to create super armies, whilst also implementing these Lovecraft ideas without completely slaughtering the foundation they created.

That’s why I believe the Chaos storyline had so much potential. It had such a great mix of fantastical elements while also still having a lot “realistic” elements to the story. Felt like a good mix of the WaW-BO1 and BO2-BO3 eras. I also don’t understand why people think we can’t have both when we did at one point. The Vril were introduced all the way back in Call of the Dead. Meaning many of those kinds of concepts have existed since Black Ops 1. For whatever reason people seem to think it was only introduced in Black Ops 3. The problem doesn’t seem to be with having both, the problem is caused by nostalgia. You hear him say things like “There are now gods in zombies?” as a negative about lovecraftian aspects like Samantha couldn’t travel through time, magically track down the main characters and spawn power ups. Before anyone tries to say that wasn’t the case until Moon, Ascension shows that Samantha can influence people in the same way people are often influenced in lovecraftian stories. She can cause people to hear voices in their head and has the ability to trap/destroy souls. Samantha was always a lovecraftian type of entity.

Past present and future all exist simultaneously, they’re not separate, they’re all happening at the exact same time. It is a mind fuck. But it helps in understanding. We can be at multiple times at the same time. There’s many ways to achieve this, especially with the multiple dimensions but even without them. You can still exist on 2 maps at the same time and date and it not change anything.

The giant "confusion" comes from the characters thinking they know what's happening, but then the other richtofen shows up and throws a wrench in everything so they ask him what's happening and why he knew they'd be there. So they're now asking him why they're there even though they came to stop the original richtofen. Does that make sense?
