From what I can assume, Jacob is trap in a coma and the mutation is keeping him alive, Dr. send a message about the truth and then the whole place finally collapse. This is the ending they put in a DLC? Are they cutting off this game, because it failed and then gave the protagonist a dark ending? The only way this ever gets a sequel is Final Girl Dani gets to be the protagonist in the sequel, out to take revenge on the people who caused all this, but the place also somehow got infested with mutants. Basically Resident Evil: Code Veronica... in space. Jacob comes back by regenerating his lost limbs, where his mutation evolve, but there's a ticking bomb that can mutate him into a monster or he would be an ultimate being (of evolution) where he could lose his old self (his memories & personality).

Makes me wonder what's the point of this DLC, if Jacob was actually "dead" from the start. Could have just shown his death in the base game. Yes, Mahler did some research on him, but as of now it doesn't hold any significance, because it's a single game, and it probably won't lead to anything, as the sequel is unlikely. It possibly would have been better (to a certain degree) if the twist was that Jacob was "dead" throughout the base game. It would at least somewhat explain his hallucinations, which I don't think were ever addressed in the story. He just saw things for some reason. Callisto Protocol's infection doesn't have the psychological aspect like Markers from Dead Space, which is reinforced by the fact that nobody else in the game sees stuff. Guess Jacob's sense of guilt is just _that_ strong. The idea of this DLC reminds me of Dead Space 3's DLC, but in the case of DS3 it worked much better. "Awakened" played around with your head a lot, telling you right from the get-go that maybe main heroes actually died or maybe not, so the story kept you guessing whether the whole thing was even real. The ambiguity of the ending also helped. On the other hand, that secret ending is really funny

Agree or disagree. This game was...ok. the dlc. Showed no continuation of anything. For a second I thought Mahler was somehow still alive but I believe she was probably crushed with Jacob's corpse. So. The DLC failed. The whole thing was just: Jacob is killed, obviously, and we're playing a dream. Where we find out that Mahler was gathering info from him dead corpse. If they were going to reveal anything about him dying. I don't see why they didn't just reveal that in the base game. Why make a DLC that'll give us hope. Us hoping that he makes it off the burning ship. And, the DLC didn't really add anything to the main game. Just confirming that he's dead. Although I do agree with some people. They probably killed Jacob off because of the reception was. But no one wants that horrible fate for a character. It's fucked up how his last words were ”almost..there" meaning he was alive for a few short seconds. Believing that he survived in his mind. RIP to this game. The “it was all just a dream” trope is some of the worst writing possible. In Year 6 at school we were taught not to ever use that trope in our creative writing class- that’s 11-12 years old for non-Brits. And here we have a AAA game with dozens of millions in budget using it, inexcusable.

Your creative writing class is fucking wrong then, because there's no such thing as a trope that's "the worst writing possible" or "not to ever be used". Tropes exist for a _reason._ If a trope were fundamentally "bad" then _it wouldn't be a trope in the first place._ Tropes are tools; what makes them "good" or "bad" in a work is _how_ the writer uses them. Personally I think the DLC's use of the "all just a dream" trope is...fine. Not great, but fine. It's adequately foreshadowed throughout the DLC story, it's given a pretty solid in-universe justification, it makes logical sense in hindsight (since the base game ended with Jacob facing off against the Biophage horde alone), and there's a clear thematic purpose to it (as it simultaneously punishes Jacob's sins with death yet rewards his heroism with peace in his final moments). Which is already better than like 90% of "all just a dream" endings out there. It's a flawed ending to be sure, but I don't think the "all just a dream" trope is entirely to blame for it. The main issue in my opinion is that the ending is just too _short._ The reveal happens and then in like a minute the credits are rolling. There just wasn't enough time for the reveal to fully set in, and for Jacob's story to receive proper closure. The little fourth-wall-break comedy bit at the very end doesn't exactly help either
