The Calming Clipper Haircutting Kit: A Review

James has some auditory processing issues and as a result is not a fan of haircuts, but today we tested out the Calming Clippers, which are great for kids with sensory processing problems, and while it wasn't all smooth sailing it was a hundred times easier than any hair cut he has had up until today and I expect that each hair cut will get a little easier as he begins to get further away from his fear of the sound the clippers we used to use made (and the vibration which also bothered him a lot).

I love how much patience you have and how you keep your cool momma, despite carrying all that invisible load from momming. I coukd sense it, because momming is hard. But you did it so graciously. Bless him! What a sweetie, thank you for this video even though your son was not comfortable at moments he was way calmer than my autistic son. It takes two of us to cut his hair as he doesn't just scream and put hands up, he runs away if he can, it's so upsetting for all involved I was hoping this was the answer but not sure it would be successful with my little one. Thanks for taking the time to show us though, must have been stressful! Think I'll have prepare my son for some time first. 🙂

Thanks for posting this. On the Amazon site they have a very calm child with a professional barber. It was unrealistic. Your video shows a child that is more realistic. My Grandson is so upset when he gets a haircut. Electric clippers are not an option. I haven't decided whether to order these or not yet.

Naaw poor bubba! My youngest is ASD and HATES his hair being cut too. Clippers have worked as he was scared on scissors. I'm looking into this as he has VERY thick hair and I just want to try and style it slightly. Your son was sooo good. I find they really hate the feeling of the loose hair on their skin too. This really sets my son off. Your soo good with him.

Oh boy!! The clippers I have are mean sharp and electric lol!!! I have been cutting my hair for over 17 years and I tell you. I got the clippers now. I have over 5 clippers, and trimmers. The thing about the clippers is they all make different sounds. Some of them buzz and some of them throb like a lawnmower. Lol!!! All my room mates know when I am cutting my hair because I dig the loudest clipper I got and they know it is me cutting my own hair. All the clippers are mean machines and they are s sharp and loud. My chorded Wahl is the probably the softest clipper but then even their again, when you start them up you get a loud pop enough to scare any kid with a condition. I always enjoyed my hair cuts when i was little however I am not awetistic. Lol!!! But for kid s who are I can only imagine that those sounds coming from the buzzers can make a very creepy sound. Even for us that are normal condition that little start up can sometimes make a person jump just a bit. It is very silent and then you hear out of nowhere the pop of the Wahl clipper turning on. The only way to quiet the clippers as we know is to give them a bit of oil but still they are going to buzz. That is cool for these types of kids that they have these things. So if they are calming then mine are electric hyper and energetic. Lol!!!! And yes. All my clippers and trimmers have girl names. I named them after girls.

It's such a big help! I'm so thankful they're coming out with so many sensory products now. Even when our two oldest were little there wasn't as much out there, and I'm definitely grateful it's out there now!
