The Calumet Wilderness: (Historical) Lake George

Did you know there have been three lakes in Lake County named George? Today I visited the one that exists only in the history books.
Until an ambitious ditching project was completed in the 1890s, much of the land that is today southern Munster and Highland and northern Dyer, Schererville, and Griffith was a large wetland with an open lake.
I took a walk along some of the large ditches that drained the area.
