I am an American-born Cambodian. My father was an ex-Khmer soldier before fleeing to the US. I had the opportunity to visit S21 with my father and it was very spine-chilling eerie and sad. I could hear my dad sniffling as we walked from room to room, looking at the photos of the executed. This is one reason why I do not take life for granted.

I'm dreading to visit this place... we're leaving Vietnam tomorrow and going to Cambodia... Today we went to the War Remnants Museum and after reading everything about the Orange Agent... I cried my eyes out... I'm from Croatia but luckily I wasn't living there during the war and my parents did... in my opinion, the monumental error to protect us from the horrors happening in Yugoslavia... so it was quite a shock.. I stumbled upon a video about Cambodian genocide and the Khmer Rouge... naivly thinking I was gonna see something beautiful about Cambodia... It left me in tears... and now thinking i'm gonna see all that in real... not looking forward to it... but it's good to learn about these things so they hopefully don't repeat it self

I remember one survivor story. He survived because the prison warden knows him since school and he was a good flute player. So he let him free but he must play the flute for entertainment for the prison guards. Then one day the prison warden had had enough of the cries from the killing fields, he asked this flute player to play the flute in his post tent everytime when the killing starts, and to play it loudly so he cant hear the screams.
