Here is the first machete I'm taking a look at, the Camillus Carnivore. It has
some impressive features so far, but I think the test we be in usage and time.
I will make sure not to make this machete a benchmark of any kind when i look
at others. As of right now I do like what I am seeing.
Let me know what you think in the comments, escpecially if you already own one.
Thank you for watching !

I dulled the edge of mine to use it for a splitting fro, batonning logs for firewood and making planks, so I don't ruin my other wood processing tools. I use a reciprecating saw blade, a wood screw, and a short stick, to make a T handle, for a saw to cut anything bigger than my thumb. if I need to make planks, I start the splits in the log with wooden wedges along its length, on both sides for the thickness of the rough plank I want, and use the fro starting from one end of the log, and batonning it to the other as the wedges split the wood open wider. this works like having a portable sawmill, only the boards are rough and if I drill some holes in the edges and carve some pinky sized pins from sticks I can pin the planks together to make wider shelves or table tops, cabinets, doors, snow sleds, even wagons, depending on what I need at the time.

Wow, I never thought of making the machete itself into a spear . That's kewl! I do want to make the small knife into one, I gotta see how it works.

@@OutdoorAdventureandGear I made a primitive spear with the machete to carve it, sorry for the confusion, the small knife has barbs, it's mainly for spearing fishing, the barbs hold the fish on, I have a lot to share with you, plus i sub. You can make a pole saw using the machete. Stay safe bro.

This thing has such a name under machete users/ collectors. There are people who hate that thing and it snapped quickly on them and others love it. I got mine today, it's not really sharp but i still like it. Not sure with what i could sharpen it, since it's titanium bonded. What are you using for sharpening this one ?
@OutdoorAdventureandGear
@OutdoorAdventureandGear 9 ай бұрын
Isn't that the truth, people either love em or hate em lol . So far, I am loving mine. Now mine came very sharp and still is, so I haven't done anything to sharpen it yet. If I ever need to, I'll try one of my sharpening stones, but I don't know anything specific to use. If you have success with a method, please let us know what worked for you.👍

@@OutdoorAdventureandGear Same, love the thing too just for the design. It's kinda unique. I will try sharpening it with a stone tomorrow. Need to look for the right angle, i will tell you how it worked out 👌

So i tried sharpening it, couldn't find my sharpening stone so i tried a ceramic stick. Didn't work, so i just used a simple kitchen knife sharpener, with 3 little chambers where you just slide it through and it's not razor sharp but good enough for me. So many people say that you can't sharpen it, because of the titanium but that's bs. My way wasn't professional but it got the job done.

@@anarcho262 kewl , that's good to know. I'll try that when mine needs it and put up a vid. Some like theirs extremely sharp, but I just need mine sharp enough to do the job. 👍

Just to add my experience to the pile, i think this thing is way overdesigned for how useful I've found it to be. Starting with the handle, it's molded just a little too strongly for what seems like a larger than average hand. I'm a fairly average sized woman and not the seven foot tall ex Marine that Camillus seems to have based the grip molding on, and i think it's a pretty detrimental oversight to have designed a tool handle in a way that makes it unwieldy for the statistical majority of potential users; they could get rid of the finger notch and just leave it with a palm swell and it'd work much better for a variety of hand sizes, i think. Moving on to the blade, it chops very well, nothing but praise for that... except that if i need to baton through something it's a pain because of the saw teeth. Speaking of the saw teeth, i find them to be complete garbage and functionally useless because they cut worse than the folding saw i will have on me if I'm in a situation where I'm carrying this machete, AND they interfere with the function of the rest of the tool, for me. And if I somehow lose my folding saw, i can just chop or baton anything i need to cut. I'm not trying to do beautiful precision carpentry out in the bush. As for digging with it, say goodbye to the one good thing about this tool, the very good blade. I'd rather take thirty seconds to make a digging stick, or just use the trowel i should have in my sanitary kit. Failing that, well, i already mentioned the digging stick. Nothing beats a good stick. All in all i think the extra features that try to make this a multitool are more downside than upside. If they made a version of this without all the extra bullshit, just a very good chopping tool with lots of blade to work with, and fixed the handle to be less awkward (and therefore tiring) for people with average or smaller hands to use, I'd happily carry one, might even consider swapping out my hatchet for it. As it is, i think it's trying to be "the only survival tool you'll ever need" and that's just fucking stupid and compromises its usefulness for all but the most desperate or inexperienced. As a side note to the inexperienced, please don't fall for marketing. This sort of thing exists to separate people new to the world of fieldcraft from their money by exploiting their lack of knowledge. Just get a good axe, knife, and folding saw for your cutting needs in the bush.

I bought one of those and the very first night I used it to clear brush, scrape and dig dirt and cut branches. I abused it probably but it withstood my thrashing and also wanted to point out a couple of things. Digging through rocky clay like soil which the High Plain Desert of Colorado has plenty of, was hard on it maybe but it didn't bend or break. The saw I thought was and still is awesome and zings through green branches up to about 1.5" maybe 2. The biggest negative is the blade did not come sharpened and I really don't know what I'm doing but it is finally starting to take an edge. So needless to say the chopping and clearing of brush was not up to par. I did finish the job but it sucked and I ended up chipping the blade minimally but I don't think it will affect it's performance after putting a real edge on the knife side. To me that saw and the sharpness of the seraded cuts is absolutely wicked and I can't hardly imagine the damage that would make in a self defense situation. Do machetes generally come without an edge? Anyhow that's my 2¢. Minus the sharpening issue this thing is worth the $30 or $40 I paid for it. Oh watch your back swing too. I guess I will Paracord the upper part of the sheath and keep working on that blade.

That seems to be the ongoing theme with this machete which is a shame because it can be easily remedied by Camillus. Mine arrived and is still is razor sharp, time will tell. Thanks for the great feedback my friend.
