Hey Lindsey im back! Tapas anyone!!! What a journey from my first walk 🥾with my son after his graduation from NC State, we ventured The Camino Frances and started at St. Jean de port in Sept. 2021 we reached halfway to Carrion de los Condes and stopped, headed back in Sept. 2022 to pick up where we stopped and finished the Frances. Then I Walked the Camino Portugal starting from Porto in March of 2023 . Then in May 2023 walked the El Camino Frances again starting from St. Jean and made it to Santiago in 28 days, hung out at the end of the world Fisterra... Now I'm planning now on walking in Feb 2024 El Camino de Norte ,to connect with el camino primitivo ,then to Fisterra on the coast🌊.... This has all happened because i happen to stumble on one of your videos many moons📆 ago. So thank you🙏 for being such an amazing part of my journey and showing me the world! Your biggest fan...... Buen Camino🤙

I walked into Santiago on my 60th birthday in 2017 accompanied by my then 19 year old son. It was the best investment of time and money I ever made. Your videos were most helpful as I trained and prepared for that walk and the two Caminos that followed, for that I thank you. I've recommended your videos to a number of pilgrims in the making since then and they too derived benefit from them. I'm glad to see a new KZbin from you and to hear you're still actively walking as I'm relatively sure you'll agree that there's no better way to experience a place than to pass through on foot at 3-5 kmph. I understand how ones focus in travel can, indeed must evolve, but I would encourage you to keep the possibility of another pilgrimage in your back pocket for later in life when there will be even more to reflect upon as you embrace the suck and surrender yourself to the grind of day after day of walking towards your next goal. For me I'm continuing to train for another Camino or two and learning French for the month it ought to take me to cross France on the Via Francienega when it comes time to celebrate my Seventyth. Buen Camino no matter where you may roam, all who wander are indeed not lost!

A wonderfully honest recap video. You inspired and helped us set out and plan for the Camino Frances in 2016! In short order we pushed to do the GR65, Camino Portuguese and Norte. However we also came to feel - as you note about yourself - that the Camino was becoming overwhelmed, highly commercialized, and reserved. Each way comes to us at a certain time in our lives and while the Camino is beautiful and important it is not the end of the voyage. Glad to hear you are doing well and moving on. Like ourselves you are fortunate to be in a beautiful country...there is a ton to do here in Canada and in BC..... thanks for everything!

*wave* good to hear from you. I walked the Camino in 2015 (when I first watched your vids) and was booked to walk it again last year in 2020 but obviously could not go again. I definitely understand the perspective that you want to give people a sense of the Camino and how amazing it is but it's truly such an individual experience that it's tough because your experiences (broadly) will be so drastically different than everyone else's. I joke with everyone I know that I will die on the Camino one day but I truly feel that way. It's such a place of reflection and deep human insight that I can't even do it enough justice. Hope for more videos but if it's just this one then thanks for all those words of assistance and encouragement years ago

Your videos were a great help for me when I was preparing for my first Camino, thank you. Don’t give up on the Camino just yet. You can’t recreate the past but my experience is that if you let each Camino be free from your expectations it will deliver a new horizon. April 2019 was my last and it wasn’t too crowded if you avoided the choke points. The Easter celebrations were a crazy cultural experience even in the smaller towns.

Hey there! Yeah, I had wonderful experiences too, and each one quite different. Definitely not giving up on it, and certainly not because of crowds. I'm sure at some point over the coming decades I'll find myself back there... but it doesn't have intense pull that it used to have on me. Oh man, I can imagine with the Easter celebrations! I wandered through quite a number of random celebrations in small towns (usually for holidays/Saints days I had no previous awareness of). Was always such a fun surprise.

Hi, Lindsey. I walked the Camino Frances in spring 2014. I was going through some massive life changes and needed to get the hell out of dodge, and the idea ofthe Camino seemed to just come out of nowhere. I remember watching all of the videos you had posted at that point, and really liking them. They were practically useful (your comments about better gear notwithstanding - but hey, it's a pretty gentle trail that forgives a lot of error, and you can always level up in Burgos or Leon...) - but more importantly, it was your enthusiasm and passion that really spoke to me. It was so abundantly clear that you had completely fallen in love with that journey - and that definitely played a part in my decision to do it. Seven years have passed since then, and my Camino obsession has subsided a bit. It was a life-changing, defining moment and I loved everything about it (except for tendonitis and snoring). So much so that I did it again in Autumn 2017. It still had that magic, and I think it always will. But I totally respect your decision to not just churn out videos for the sake of it. It is a pretty special journey, and has a kind of holiness (for want of a better word) that can be a fragile thing. So thank you for the videos you made when you were feeling it your heart, and thank you for moving on when you felt it was time to do so! Who knows - maybe it will be there for you again sometime in the future. Personally, I don't think I'll be going back any time soon, but then again...I was always so much in awe of the joyous folks in their 70s I met along the way - it would be kind of cool to be one of them someday... Thanks again, and ultreia! xxx

Thank you for your videos!! I did the Camino as a solo 19-year old girl in 2018 and your videos were a huge encouragement for me (and offered reassurance for my parents). I was a backpacker with all of the info in my head on gear used for the backcountry before I went, but your videos gave me a genuine, valuable insight into what I should expect with the Camino and how it was different than the backcountry camping I was used to. I would still be really interested in hearing what sorts of things you've branched out into, and I think other people who have found your insight helpful would be as well!

Lindsey! Apologies, I am just finding this now clearly a year after your posting...I followed all of your Camino posts and loved each one and wondered why you stopped. In the mean time I walked the Camino Frances in 216, the Portugese Coastal in 2018, the Via di Francesco to Assisi in 2019, and just finished another Frances in October of 2022. Your advice in so many ways accompanied me in all of these journeys. As you know returning to the Camino is....(long pause)....another Camino in and of itself. I see a guitar in the background and it makes me smile as it is another way to express many of the same feelings from the Camino. Ultreia in you own journey, and I hope to see you when we both return to the Way once more. Many blessings, and buen Camino!

Hello Lindsey, so nice to hear from you again. I have walked the Camino in 2017. I must say that your videos played a huge role in my preparations for the Camino and I thank you so, so much for that :-) My plan was to walk another Camino in 2020, but unfortunately due to Covid, it has been placed on hold. The plan is to walk the next year in 2022, however, I have this feeling that it will be a rat race next year as a lot of people will want to walk it then so just because of that might have to postpone again. In regards to your experiences, I was looking forward to hearing more about your experiences. Noticed that you did not talk too much about your last Camino, and I'm sure a lot of us would like to know more about it; good or bad, no judgment. The Camino I did was "mostly" positive. However, there were times when I had to move a bit quicker just to leave the negative "influencers" behind. In all, it was a wonderful experience, something I will never forget and I am looking forward to the next one. :-) I hope we can hear more about your other ventures!

Hey Bella! Thank you for such a thoughtful comment! Yes, I'm sure 2022 will be an interesting year on the Camino, and chances are the landscape will be quite different post-COVID (how many allergies will be permanently lost, for example?) We'll just have to wait and see! Will you walk the Frances? Honestly, in regards to my 2016 Camino, it feels like the details have been lost to time almost haha! I didn't write or journal to look back on. I didn't meet many other English-speakers so was pretty lonely, and I was in an emotional storm cloud (I had actually just called off my own wedding). After the trip, I was busy and not in the mood to film, and promptly had to move on with life and now I don't feel like I could even really talk about the trip in any detail. I would also say mostly positive, but also I was a miserable mess for at least the first half but it wasn't the Camino's fault 😅 I hope that makes sense! Anyway, thanks for being here :)

Live changing sound so cliched but it was. I am more than twice your age and loving life thanks to the Camino. Now exploring Caminos at home in Australia. Bon Camino where ever you walk.

Thank you Lindsey for sharing your experiences and information regarding El Camino. Everything was helpful and relevant 3 years ago when my wife and I did the Camino and will still be 3 years from now. But, as is the case with the Camino as well, life is a journey and you plan, experience, have good days and bad, make mistakes, learn from your experiences, and from others, and continue moving forward and growing. And everything in our life holds different importance at different phases in our life. That is all part of life. And as far as your channel, it isn't named The El Camino channel, it is your channel, and as such should reflect you, your interests and your passions, whatever they may be. Your followers, as opposed to just El Camino followers, will respect that. Buen Camino, or more appropriate now, "Live with Passion!"

Hi Lindsey. I fully understand your need to move to other things. I’ve completed a couple Camino routes and have decided to do a long distance cycling journey in the spring of 2024. While I absolutely loved the Camino journeys and all they have to offer is just such a busy experience now and that just too much for me. Turned 60 last month so it’s just time to find something else to do that keeps me physically active. Wish you well on your new experiences.

I walked the Frances or walked the frances as well. I started in Austris. Anyway, I think that one will always be "my camino". All the ones following (I guess I'll walk them all) are just for me to get back in time and try to experience a lil bit of the magic. Maybe Im wrong and I'll really need to walk the camino again like I did 2019. Who knows :) Buen Camino

Hi Lindsey, In the summer of 2019, I walked parts of the Camino with my daughter as a college graduation gift. I saw a number of different videos on the Camino, but yours was far and away the most authentic. It became my go-to for preparation for the Camino. One of the best parts was that, I think my daughter was much more receptive to your videos than she would have been had her dad made a particular suggestion. :-) Really, you made a huge difference in our preparation for and our time on the Camino. I'm learning German and French to get out of my comfort zone and will use them in Europe the next time. And towards the end I'll return to Spain to keep my fluency. Although these days, I love hiking in the backcountry and the mountains, getting to also traipse through small towns is such a great way to get a feel for a part of a country you wouldn't otherwise get to see, and those walks strike such a nice balance of that. Best of luck with all your future walks!

Thank you, Lindsey! I walked from Pamplona to Logroño in 2019, partly nudged by your advice that walking from anywhere to anywhere was a solid concept for a shorter Camino. I am glad to listen to your post, Lindsay. I think I may have watched some of your posts before May 2019 which is when my husband and I went to walk ( in France) from Le Puy-en-Velay to Roncesvalles. about 800k, 39 days. Fantastic experience... When I came back I was totally obsessed with the Camino so I wrote about it. If all goes well, I should publish my book in the fall. I want to title it On foot in France. It is nothing extraordinary as a story but I needed to write it. Anyway it is funny because recently I told my husband that you did not post anything for a long time and here you are. I am a local from the North Shore . I never met you but I enjoyed all your posts. I am keeping in shape , walking every day. We had a plan to walk from Porto to Fisterra in the fall 2020 and of course we had to cancelled our trip. I am still thinking we might do it. Actually my husband said not too long ago that we should start in Lisbon ... well, time will tell. I am not too old but not too young either but I think we can do it. I am still in touch with a few pilgrims we met in 2019 and this is cool. Life is different now that we are not traveling but I am sure we will get back to it some days. Take care and thanks for telling what happened to you since the last post here on KZbin. Stay safe !

That's fantastic that you're walking every day. That love of walking never left me either after the Camino, and I'm often traipsing through the North Shore woods (I live over here now too!) Lindsey, Thank you for touching base....I was wondering. I enjoyed all you videos, particularly the one about doing a second camino. I did, and it was different and wonderful, and I needed the encouragement at the time. If reference to you doing a more professional video now that you work for an outfitter. Here is food for thought: the word amateur (obviously the opposite of professional) comes from the Latin root amar=to love. An amateur then, is someone who does something simply out of the love they have for it. That was obvious in all your videos, and I suspect the reason for their popularity. I don't think you could have done better! The purity, genuineness, encouragement and positivity that you demonstrated is not reproducible, in this girl's humble opinion. You will be missed!!! Buen camino....in the truest sense of the words.....

Kathryn, what a thoughtful comment. Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. I'm glad that video about doing the Camino again landed with you! (I always thought it was underrated tbh 😅) It's very true, the video I tried to film (of a new packing list, with "better" gear) was missing that pure excitement and enthusiasm. Also it felt so similar to my job at the time that it killed the fun and I'm a terrible actor and definitely couldn't reproduce it myself on camera. But... something else might light that passion again, and if I can be organized enough to try and capture that on film... it'll be here! Buen camino to you as well Amiga 💛

Great points. And I agree. Moreover, I think the Camino is great to get people into walking long distances. A great learning experience. With the self-empowerment of having made it to Santiago, many will do more walking in their own countries and elsewhere, incl thru-hikes with camping etc. I don't think you need to worry about your channel begin a Camino channel. If you decide to post videos about your other outdoor adventures, that would be seen as a "natural evolution" of a pilgrim's "development" and most folks will probably enjoy and appreciate them. Bringing the camino home and taking it to the next level. Not sure what the proper words are but I assume you know what I mean anyway.

Hey Joerg!! Yes, that has honestly been my exact path and progression. It was a huuuge learning experience and a great opportunity for me to prove to myself that I can do hard things, and since then I've sought harder things and built on that knowledge/excitement base. And you're right, I'm sure that's a very common experience. The Camino is accessible, inspiring, and you're way fitter when you finish! 😅 Thank you for your words and for sharing your wisdom! Hahahahahaaaaa hahahahahaaaaa hahahahaaaa ... bahahahahaha Your 30,. I'm 58 I'll get to the humor later... Your.videos were a God send 🙏 my first camino was based on movies, the romance not the sore feet reality came from you It so hard to find good information on the camino, some are grandising with a lot of personal reflection little value I talked my kids into going One daughter 30 now, watched the Movie "The Way" brought a two heavy pack, flop flops & a beach towel, I brought a chair .... With out you we would have not packed essential items, the chair we mailed forward with 30 pounds of extra equipment. The heart of my pack was what you told me to the bring,.it stayed with me until the end. My 26 year old daughter was 100% ready fit in shape, packing list 100% Four years later we walked Lisbon Portugal to Fatima, Tui to Santiago Muxia & Fisterra ×2 With my son then 15 Lisbon to Santiago not for the timid ! I thought I was the camino expert after the first hell no, we got stuck in 108 degrees in a desert area with no water ... God reached out, an off road motorcycle police brought me to town for water to bring back for my kids. Any way it was you, your videos help me prepare, I looked at the terrain the weather around you, the feeling of adult guides along the way, your comments & suggestions I went to a Rick Steve's workshop in Edmonds, Washington he could tale a lesson from you . The hardest part for most people is travel arrangements, and how easy it is to plan & execute. I went to cheapoair & the eurorail sites & booked one way passage for all found the smart rates. FYI a one way to Paris plane ride $410. usd that's cheap It can be done cheap but people need good guides thru the process So you can't quit .... The issue I found was many that take this walk are upper middle class, some "not all" arrogant snobs no judgrment, I think the working class needs to experience this journey, the ones like me destined to work & die never seeing the world outside, the wonderful people from all over the world. let this.group see our countries for what they really are ,.not rude but simple folks looking for direction Over the years I checked back on your site to see you slowly 🐌 going to the been there done that stage ... Let me help renew your interest God was on that walk, I'm a changed man because of that walk,.I could write a book on how many times he stepped in to help, when out o,f money, or lost, I'm not big on religion made by man, but I know God now, partly because of you. after reading Pillars of the Earth & World without end Tom Follett I look at the casting forms in the churches the chiseled marks and think back to a time when the true believer worked 6-7 days a week but still made it into these great buildings for hope. Jack a character in the second book has a son his wife walked the camino to find him a great read .... The laugh at the start, you have many chapters left in your life. Many you will return truste.that walk calls ... I would suggest a different walk next time and tips I can now pass to you first continue to guide people.on your channel with a now more mature prospective, research reasonable ways to travel there 1. Watch the euro vrs. the currency in your country like stock market buy low & save up. Research cheap flights / train one way with resources to help others connect the working folk, pay that off then do the same for the return. a couple of months later. Now the most important part walk by the diploma god & your feet know you walked the path. There are different stamps ones for the tourists one for the faith did you know that??? Bet not in each town find the father or the nuns of the town politely ask where they live most live close by the ⛪ church, knock or wait after the service ask for there stamp, most times its different then the tourist pilgrim stamp, each will be a camimo story I have many I can share. These stamps look like art Muxia is the true end of the camino not sanitago in town there is a little church with a marble pillar touched by millions of hands,.not the church on the water .... interesting that new church was struck by lightning on Christmas eve & burnt down wood roof gone shortly after being built, Christmas eve ... one & a billion chance You will return it will be later maybe like me when your.in your 50's but it's never over or done Enjoy your break But your channel needs you In these times people need to be guided by hope & faith, we need you back ... I don't know your taste in scholars , if you avoid current issue topics your country has a saint in Jordan Peterson listen to his lectures on life & happiness away from politics is where hes his best. especially his topics on God. He is known to turn atheists into believers There are many topics to cover Cool to take this knowledge to other trails but return here to spread the word, don't know there you are on God, like the camino give it twenty years maybe, your view will change I'm hoping.to go to Greece to walk a pilgrimage to mount athos, to visit hermit monks, sorry no woman allowed, in some parts of the island, also the hostile on Grand Saint Brenard Pass, between Italy & Switzerland is a bucket lister .... a good man I spoke with in Portugal valued monks as a higher calling the thought of someone giving up everything, avoid money, Living simply,.something we could all take a lesson from I would love to see a video on ultra light packing under 5 pounds. The walk would be a breeze, sending items to three different positions on the camino,.kind.of like the PACIFIC CREST TRAIL from Mexico to Canada they have drop mail in spots instead of heavy packs. Any way I wanted to thank you And I will pray you continue Imagine your a rock band, you write a great song, every town wants to hear it, you want to sing the new stuff they still want the old. Later when your star is past by another it becomes 😎 cool again to tell them you wrote it & sing a bar Your in the middle of that now ... now get making !!!! I can't stand watching these grandising no info camino walks
