We finally made it to CANADA and we brought back SNACKS!
Today, the Canada's, both Mr. and Mrs. are trying out Canadian snacks that we brought back from our quick trip up north. Was a majority of our 5 hours spent in grocery stores? Yes, yes it was. So glad you asked, that is so kind of you.
We will be taste testing these tasty Canadian treats from maple cookies to Ketchup chips, and let you know our distinctly American take on these Canadian snacks.

Thank you all for ALL the comments and ideas for other snacks! If you do choose to send some more my way, please know that I may not be able to do the reaction on camera as I am allergic to MANY foods and can’t try everything you all are suggesting. BUT if this video hits 1,000 likes (and folks send me MORE stuff from Canada) we will come back with part two, the return of the snacks.

hello im a Canadian and ketchup chips are some of my favorites. HOWEVER, do not. I repeat, DO NOT! Eat sweats or worse something bitting and sweet before eating them. Ever tried eating vinegar flavored chocolate? Sounds horrible right? Well thats pretty much what you just did. Also, if you like salt and vinegar chips, you'll love ketchup chips, it tastes very similar but with a small hint of tomato and dill pickle.

The reason the Maple Syrup tasted different, is that you have the grade a dark and robust (formally known as grade b), has a much stronger flavor (and in my opinion better) than the grade a fancy or amber which is more commonly sold. You can find dark and robust in stores in the states, but you have to know to look for it.

I buy it online. My local grocery stores only have a small selection of "robust", and it's twice the price of the " light".

Yay for the Canadas in Canada! Maple Cookies: We don't really eat them. Interesting about the Maple Syrup though. Aero: Put it in your mouth and let it melt. 😊 Whippets are excellent - with jam, not maple syrup. Bite off the marshmallow and eat it first, then eat the cookie. I'm not a fan of Ketchup chips either! I Think you may end up getting a few boxes of Canadian treats from your Canadian viewers over the next few months!

I'm so surprised about the cookies! We seemed to have them back in the 60s, But since the '70s or so it's always seemed to me that they were mostly for sale in souvenir shops. I have noticed them anymore available in grocery stores in the last 5 years or so? It could however just be that I'm not around the people who buy the cookies - And there are a fair few more people in Canada than I know in person lol 😂 Glad to hear from you all!!

Fun to get to see the Canada's eat Canadian snacks! I'll admit to wasting $3+ dollars at Trader Joes on ketchup flavored seasoning. It is weird. When we went to Canada every spring for our 'holiday' at Fairmont Hot Springs one thing we always made sure to get was some Mackintosh's soft caramel candies. (edit: So wrong...they are toffees, not caramels clearly it has been too many years since I've had one!) Sooooo delicious and for us kids, it was undoubtedly a carrot-on-the-stick treat to be good.

The food and coffee are just super good, and we can hardly wait to get there to eat at favorite eateries. Our son started calling it "Canadia" for a while, and . . . they are called CANADA geese. Of course, there are CANADIAN Canada Geese that live there. 😁

We, here in the UK, would put the kit kat and the Aero in the fridge before eating. We have plain, orange, mint and white chocolate Aeros, yummy. Kit kats mainly come in original milk chocolate, dark and white chocolate, I have seen a pink one but don't know what flavour that is. The UK chocolate is great and has no stuff to stop it from melting. Xx

A lot of the chocolate is nearly UK flavours. The Whippets look like dark chocolate teacakes with MS inside (by Tunnocks, a UK company, they'd have blue wrappings where the milk chocolate ones have red (NO maple syrup)- and Tunnocks also do 3 types of wafer bisuits: dark and milk chocolate covered and caramel ones covered in toasted coconut). We get one brand of Ketchup chipc/crisps here, and it's by Gloden Wonder. They're nice, but I'm glad they come in small bags. You can't eat much more than that without a burnt tongue. I was in the US when salt and vinegar lays came out and it was like eating powdered white vinegar. SO nasty. UK salt and vinegar flavours (you can get different types of vinegar depending on the company - chardonnay wine, cider, malt, balsamic) are so nice. The cheetoes sound like they dissolve like wotsits (wotsits flavours are cheese, really cheesy or flamin' hot) and walkers/cheetoes are both owned by the same parent company, pepsi co.

Old dutch ketchup is a classic for like a kids birthday party, so you sort of are adapted to it 😂 like a lot of commenters, I agree that as an adult I reach for the all dressed, but you still may not like it because it still has a vinegar twang to it. I feel like the whippets are not the classic, there is a thing called a wagon wheel that has rasberry jam instead, which is the superior option. Also, you should try an "oh henry" if we get another Canadian food episode.

Stephanie, you cracked me up with the Whippets and the Old Dutch, giving them both a NOPE but still eating the other half 😂 Is 'vinegar and salt' the standard name for that flavour there? I'm in England and we always call them 'salt and vinegar'. Also, crisps (er, potato chips) in many flavours are pretty standard here, it always amazed me that America had so few flavours whenever I was there. Generally, I don't like American chocolate, it reminds me of the cheap weird no-brand stuff here, so I'm interested to see that Canadian chocolate is different. This was so much fun! Thank you to Mr Canada, both for being a good sport and giving you the surname to make this whole video work 😂🍁😂

Stephanie and Ned are cute and funny! You did one of these with UK (where I am) snacks, I seem to remember...? But I can't remember what brands you tried. The skinny biscuit (cookie...) sticks, the brand we have is Mikado. And for aerated/whipped chocolate, Cadbury's Twirl is far superior to Aero (unless it's mint Aero). Do you have the Tony's Chocolonely brand in the US...? Gourmet fair trade chocolate, in big, chunky, colourfully wrapped bars, in many varieties 😋

Well, depending on when that was, the Mountain Dew may not have been caffeinated, I think it was 2012 when they changed the law about what beverages could be caffeinated. And Coke tastes different depending on where you got it whether it's been made with corn syrup, sugar beet sugar or cane sugar.

@bunhelsingslegacy3549 The Mountain Dew tasted like Fresca (I'm not sure if you have that- grapefruit carbonated beverage) and the Red Bull tasted over the top sweet, and it isn't here. It tastes fairly bitter IMO.
@bunhelsingslegacy3549
@bunhelsingslegacy3549 Жыл бұрын
@@ceara3100 I can't do caffeine so I've never tasted Red Bull or caffeinated Mountain Dew, but we do have Fresca (grapefruit and orange flavours, I like grapefruit best). There is a slight taste difference between caffeinated Coke and non-caffeinated Coke (when you could get it non-diet) but certainly not as much difference as between ppepsi and coke or between either of those and their diet equivalents, or even the versions made with corn vs cane sugar.. Funny how things change depending on ingredients and marketing though!!

Highly recommend the orange flavoured Kitkat, yum. There's the order to eating a whippit - biscuit first, then the filling, then the marshmallow and chocolate. Even then, does not achieve peek cookie experience. Ketchup chips pair very well with beer on a Sunday afternoon. Just sayin'. @@bunhelsingslegacy3549 Is dismantling cookies in a certain order... is that a Gen X thing... or is this a "we live in a country where winters used to be way, way too long & we didn't have internet" kind of thing? I eventually came to separating the chocolate from the marshmallow, only after first eating the cookie and licking out the cherry jam. Ending in the cup of chocolate or the marshmallow as last bite - depended if the marshmallow was a bit stiff from being on the verge of going stale... I forgot about the coconut bars... Hm. The next time our Girl Friday here goes to Disney for a day she can have the Killalowowa (sp?) Sunrise version of a Beaver Tail. Little bit of representation for Ottawa? And definitely a poutine... How's summer been treating you so far? Any damage from the tornadoes? The tomatoes are hanging in there, by-the-by. They've been blown over a few times these past few weeks. But we're getting there...

@@stevezytveld6585 Well, the tomatoes in the garden are probably going feral by now and probably some are getting close to ripe if they didn't get shredded by hail (just got back from vacation and haven't checked them yet), the cherrys were at the top of their stakes before I left, the ones in buckets on the balcony are still relatively well-behaved and the peppers are starting to flower, the tomato sampler pack I've got on the table for another friend have flowers and little green marbles, so, they're coming along too. No tornado damage, was south of me, thankfully, Twice was enough (2019 tornado and the derecho last year both hit my neighbourhood and left shingles in my driveway from someone else's roof while I was 20 min south in my garden)....

@@bunhelsingslegacy3549 Yeah. It's hard to believe that tornadoes are part of our reality now. Apparently both Ottawa, ON and Ottawa, Kansas got hit on the same day. So sorry you neighbourhood keeps getting hit. It's the size of the hailstones I can't get over... Sounds like you're about to be up to your elbows in tomatoes. I love that smell when they first come off the plant.

Canadian here. Love maple cookie and maple syrup, didn't know there'd be a difference between Vermont and Quebec maple syrup though. Aero bars are best melted in your mouth, not chewed... I haven't had the maple Whippets, but the cherry whippets are one of my favourite indulgences, right up there with Ah Caramel cakes from Vachon (though their Passion Flakies are dang nice. Might be an Ontario/Quebec things, I've heard people complain they can't get them in the western provinces. I don't know who likes ketchup chips, they're sure not my favourite. I'd rather go wtih sour cream and onion. I find they're like a crappy salt and vinegar chip so if you don't like that, no surprise you don't like the ketchup ones. And I didn't know Cheetos made puffy ones, the ones I've had were always the solid type rather than the styrofoam type.

I recommend trying plain or BBQ Old Dutch. We think they are the best brand of Canadian potato chips. We are not fans of the overly seasoned, so we have not tried the Old Dutch version of all dressed.

At one time Fritos corn chips had a ketchup flavor. Horrible but we kept the bag in the car in case we got stranded. If we did get stranded, , we would eat them only to keep from starving rather than eat them all at once.

Something a lot of snack "try-ers" never reach for is Canadian Oreos. I think because they figure Oreos are Oreos.... or Coca-Cola. They both have a very different flavour in Canada. Also, does America have Chocolate Cheerios? The taste doesn't strike me as a very ""American" flavour profile.

I was actually about to comment this, sweets taste different in the US because most companies use high fructose corn syrup to sweeten whereas other countries use beet sugar or cane sugar. I'm near Mexico and everyone here knows Mexican coca cola is a million times better than the US stuff

World Market has some of these - Aero and Whippets. Also, Canadian M&Ms don't have high fructose corn syrup and I thought they'd be better for that and I was wrong. American M&Ms are superior, IMO. And they're called Smarties in Canada, which is funny because Smarties are a powdery, fruity candy in the US... that are made in Canada. 😵
