Essa é a melhor raça para criar em lugar muito frio?

They’re pretty hardy so do ok in moderate temperatures, the room rarely gets below freezing in the depth of winter

Hi Matt, how do you know the sex of chicks being weaned tia
@TheCanaryRoom
@TheCanaryRoom 12 күн бұрын
I should say I don’t always get it right! Outside of cinnamons, which carry a sex linked gene and when using a carrier male with a normal (non cinnamon hen) all of the visual cinnamon birds are hens. I tend to look at colour on the throat of the young, a deeper richer colour is almost always a male

Good video. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind, I'll ask each one with a separate comment. The first has to do with egg shells; I have watched videos of bird keepers putting down eggs not hatching due to "too much calcium". I find it very hard to believe that a hen canary can absorb so much calcium through diet, including supplementation, to the extent that her eggs will be too tough for chicks to hatch. Especially considering that calcium is drawn from her bones to make the egg shells and how likely is going to be overdrawn from her bones, not to mention that the developing chicks take calcium from the egg shells to form their own bones. My theory, is that if eggs are too hard, it's due to other minerals such as fluoride that has a synergistic, super strengthening affect with calcium. What are your thoughts on too much calcium in diet affecting eggs hatching?

There’s a school of thought that canaries don’t store too much calcium and therefore require additional for egg laying. I think in most likelihood eggs not hatching is one of two things, the first being humidity, if the levels are too low (optimum being around 60%) the chicks will die in the shell, the second is blackspot , some young with black spot will hatch but often perish after a couple of days, many more will die in the shell prior to hatching. As you’ve seen in some of the videos when eggs are over their due date I bob them in Luke warm water, not for long as the shell is porous, but this often feels like it softens the shell a little. I’ve had a couple of hens over the last 20 years or so lay soft shell eggs, I’ve put this down to poor condition rather than a lack of calcium

@@TheCanaryRoom I didn’t know black spot could be transmitted through the egg to the chick. I have seen the video with Keith where he mentions doxycycline to remove it from the hens prior to breeding and that it has made a difference for him in terms of black spot. That makes sense to me now. Is there anything else that you'd suggest? I’ve seen the egg bobbing technique in your videos and will definitely try it next time if I need to. I do appreciate your thoughts on calcium storage and poor condition affecting egg shells; they reinforce my skepticism about "too much calcium".

How common are respiratory conditions like avian TB and air sac mites? Have you ever encountered the likes or know someone who has?
@TheCanaryRoom
@TheCanaryRoom 15 күн бұрын
I have had airsac mite in the past but i don’t feel that it’s particularly common, avian TB I’ve never encountered. I used Scat in the past for airsac, now of course I use exzolt and don’t encounter any issues

@@TheCanaryRoom I also didn't know that exzolt can treat air sac mites, it's not advertised to but it would make sense that it does. I have a bird in quarantine that even through various (carefully done and monitored) treatments of antibiotics, antiparasitics and even ivermectin drops still makes an odd breathing sound. It's a lot better than what it was so I am assuming that I am a long the right direction. He seems perfectly fine otherwise. I'll try exzolt tomorrow, I have some, thank you.
