Fun fact: Sensory Sweep also made that terrible Alvin and the Chipmunks game on the Wii

Now that I think about it, younger me did wonder where the DS port was. The unspoken rule was if there was a PSP port for a multiplatform release then there would be a DS port.

Another unspoken rule was most games' PSP ports would be better than their DS ports

Wait... SENSORY SWEEP!? Thank god it was cancelled, they ported Need for Speed Most Wanted (another racing game) to the Nintendo Ds and somehow made a version even worse than the FRICKING GBA VERSION.

So a studio that had hundreds of employees that were tasked for doing a DS port got their project dropped due to laughably bad mismanagement and among other awful things hasn't leaked the project they took 9 months on yet, I find that surprising to say the least. I guess if the Crash community bugged enough employees that worked at that cursed studio that lost DS port could easily be found, I think there's good odds of a build or two surviving well past it's 9 months of development due to the amount of employees involved that worked there.

actual crime that they were cancelled, crash not having any ps3 games is insane. the racing one looked so fun too

@@flautarara At least it didn't get either Titans or Mutants either. And getting to play the best ones from PSN (Crash 1-CTR) has so mnay childhood memories from it.

@@wilhelmscream3813 bro i never even mentioned the titans games at all omfg. theyre decent games that did fine, i dont get why its good they didnt get a ps3 port, skipping a generation pushed crash further into irrelevancy

Thanks for all the info. I knew of the canceled DS port of CTTR and I was told about Mario Kart DS causing the devs to chicken out of the competition, but I didn't know of the allegations and the toxic environment at the studio
@keeferkifflom3606 ай бұрын
The real reason was because of the politics going on behind the studio making the port. The whole “a DS crash racer not beating Mario Kart Ds” was a cover up. Cause the console CTTR sold millions on par with MK double dash.

yea and a few years earlier on the gba they launched crash nitro kart on gba while there already was a mario kart for gba but crash nitro kart was a successful game on gba. so it would have been similar here but maybe the port was going to be extra bad

sometimes i feel pity for shovel ware game developers from the 2000s and 90s since it seems like they were lucky if the company they worked for lasted more than 5 years. you had some exceptions but it seemed like it was/is brutal if you just wanted a stable life were you didn't have to worry about getting randomly fired when things seem to be going well. sometimes it was because the boss made a minor mistake like not getting into the latest fad on time or getting into the wrong fad like fmv games or ngage and they just went bankrupt or got bought out .but sometimes they would just fire people to save money. i think that for some strange reason tech companies go bankrupt less quickly now but i don't think that applies to gaming but to things like software companies that used to go bankrupt very quickly too.

Okay i haven't thought about this port in a long time, but hearing about how poorly the studio in charge of it was managed really makes me seem like it was for the best that it got canceled. It's a shame but it's better for the employees, I think.
@mattb65226 ай бұрын
Wow! It is always amazing to hear the behind-the-scenes development (or lack thereof) in the gaming industry. That is awful that the employees got screwed over due to poor management, but hopefully they all moved onto better companies. It seems like there are always stories of toxic work environments in the gaming industry. It sucks that if being in the gaming industry is your dream job, you finally land a potentially awesome job, get hyped with optimism but then everything comes crashing down when reality about the toxicity of your studio actually materializes.

If we found crash landed and it's entire source code, we can find crash tag team racing on the DS. It's probably already found, but some annoying hoarder has it in his sweaty palms, never letting it go to the public because money.

Stories like this are a reminder that this sort of scummy shit has been going on in the industry for years... And isn't just limited to the publishers. While I would have loved a DS version of CTTR, I'm glad it was canned after hearing all of this.

Dave, if the story is true, is the kind of person I despise. I had a very shitty Co-CEO/supervisor for a job where I was hired for my programming skills and was to help with automating things. This was an engineering based job and I had zero education or experience in engineering and got to learn AutoCAD (and LISP and AutoLisp which are computer languages I hate because of my experience there). They knew I had bo engineering background. Long story short. They had me doing survey engineering "mapping" (i.e. calling it mapping is too generous) and those ideas that they wanted me bring up and present to them were shot down or forgotten about despite initial interest. They let me go after 3 months of painful work with ridiculously long work time, unreasonable required overtime that always felt inconvenient, ignoring many personal medical concerns (i.e., interpreting me having panic attacks about being trapped in that work environment moreso than I experienced in my life having one every other day), very strict work hours, and ZERO training or direction about how to do stuff and criticized when I did things "wrong". Their excuse for letting me go? Me trying to do work I wasn't hired for (even thought that WAS what I was hired for), and lying about what was explained to me about the job before hiring. Long story short. Don't be a &^%$er like hypothetical Dave. Also, when interviewing for a job, ask for what a typical workday is like and ask them to clarify if they are being vague or refuse to clarify anything they say; ask about work hours, requesting days off (do not obsess over whether it is paid or unpaid leave), whether there is required overtime (especially if it can be spontaneous), and how your transition into your hypothetical new job will be aided. If you don't like anything that you heard in response or have legitimate non-paranoid doubts, leave or make sure to turn down the offer for the job if presented. Be especially suspicious if they offer the job on the spot or on the day of the interview. I say you should either like or tolerate your job, not despise and/or dread coming into work everyday like I did. Thankfully, the job that I got after that abomination called "work" was something that I absolutely loved.
