The Cannonball Run starring Roger Moore,Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise and Farrah Fawcett, and directed by Hal Needham. It was produced by Hong Kong's Golden Harvest films. There were two sequels, 1984's Cannonball Run II and 1989's Speed Zone! The latter was also known as Cannonball Fever. Roger Moore playing "heir to the Goldfarb Girdles fortune" Seymour Goldfarb, Jr., who perpetually identifies himself as actor Roger Moore; his character behaves similarly to James Bond and is only once (by his mother) referred to by his real name, making it unclear whether Goldfarb and Moore are the same or if Goldfarb is simply delusional. He drives a silver Aston Martin DB5. Roger Moore plays Seymour Goldfarb, Jr. as a self-parody of his role as James Bond. Goldfarb is a character who thinks he's Roger Moore (ironically who's playing Goldfarb in this film) and who therefore stylizes himself as James Bond. His car, an Aston Martin DB5 displaying the UK registration plate 6633 PP is the one in the original Bond films Goldfinger and Thunderball. The original UK registration plate was BMT 216A before being sold to businessman Gavin Keyzar. Molly Picon portrays his mother, who referred to her son "as if he were some goy movie star named Roger Moore". Also, one of the many women that rode with him in the car mistook him for George Hamilton. Another of the women was played by model Lois Hamilton, billed as Lois Areno

Watched this in the theater as a 13yo kid. Loved it. Still a fun film. Stupid characters and stupid plot, but FUN!! COOL cars. I loved the 76' Laguna driven by Terry Bradshaw with the grey primer. Pimpin' ass car!!

As much as I love this movie it also has a sad/dark side - the scene with the smoke inside Roger Moore,s Aston had a terrible out come for Heidi Von Beltz September 25, 1955 - October 28, 2015 - rest in peace.

Wow, I really did not know that. I read the story about her accident and the frivolous way that the stunt coordinator treated the safety of her and the driver, Jimmy Nickerson. Stupid, stupid decision from Hal Needham that cost this woman the rest of her normal life. There was no need for her to be in that car, a mannequin would have been enough. How wrong to put your fiance in a stunt like that without the necessary safety precautions. Just so wrong.

Funny part is growing up I never seen a James Bond movie but knew the character thanks to Roger Moore and this movie. Years after the movie Hall Needham approached the Bond producers about directing a Bond movie and they said along the lines of that maybe they should have sued him for this instead. I find that ironic, granted I've seen Moore's Bond movies and they are fun to watch but they are silly at points. It's funny that they got mad at this but it was more respectful from an intentional comedy movie than the actual Bond movies themselves.

There was actually a bad accident while filming the aston martin smoke scene. A red van hit the car head on and the passenger sitting on the left side (the car is RHD) was left a quadriplegic. Her name is Heidi Von Beltz.

The flaw in the ending is that they each stamped their time card when they left New York. They didn't all start at the exact same time - so it didn't matter in what order they stamped their time card in California - it was who had the least time elapsed between start/finish. If they all got to the finish line at the same time - whoever left New York last obviously made the best time.
