Saw cannonball run when it first came out in 1981 when I was 12 years old. I was going to the movies with my then best friend. We were a couple of fanatics about the movies. We talked, read, ate, drank, and slept the movies. And we went to the movies together once a week, every week, from the 1970s-1980s. We saw literally hundreds upon hundreds of movies together. He always chose the movies we went to see. I didnt mind. I loved the movie theatergoing experience in itself. And after seeing our movie, we'd retreat back to his place to watch even more movies on his tv, whatever happened to be airing that afternoon and evening. We tried to see every new movie that came out regardless of the story, genre (he loved horror movies, I preferred comedies), critics reviews, or who starred in it. So, there was no particular reason we went to see Cannonball Run. It just happened to be one of the latest, newest releases to the theaters. It initially got bad reviews mostly, but when I saw it, the theater was packed, and the audience, my friend, and myself thoroughly enjoyed it, laughing all the way through. It's a real fun, crowd pleaser of a movie and was one of the biggest box office hits of the year. Going to the movies in the 1970s-1980s with my best friend is among my most fondest memories of not only my childhood, but my entire life.

@matthewcragg36077 жыл бұрын
There were exotics before the Countach. The Miura comes to mind. But the Countach, as I say, put exotics on the map. When the Countach came along all of a sudden every kid, including myself, had at least one poster of it on their walls. It "mainstreamed" exotic cars. Today it has a mystique for having done so. It has a place in exotic car lovers' hearts no other model can really fill no matter how much more powerful or technologically advanced. It is to exotic cars what the Beatles are to rock and roll music. There were other great rock and roll bands before the Beatles. There have been fantastic bands since (Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones come to mind). But the Beatles will always be the greatest of all time. So too will be the Countach.

0:29 - 3:53 This scene made me born as a petrol head when I was about 8 years old :) Now I am 42 and still in love with this car!

The sound of that V12 screaming is just beautiful. First time I saw Cannonball Run 1 & 2 was like back in 85 on HBO. The moment I heard that Lambo I was hooked.

Me too. The same sound is used for the Coyote X in Hardcastle and McCormick and numerous Ferraris that appeared in movies and TV in the 80s. The engine sound is actually recorded from a Ferrari 365 GT4 and the original recordings were probably done by the production studio working on the 1976 film The Gumball Rally. Notice the Countach in #2 sounds completely different and is actually correct for a Countach. Same with Speed Zone and any raw unedited Countach videos you find on youtube. Yes that nice Black Lambo was dubbed with Ferrari sounds in almost all scenes :)

This actual car has now had a from-the-ground-up restoration and has been added to the National Historic Vehicle Register (#30). Currently owned by Jeff Ippoliti, it’s estimated value is now around $10m.

THIS was MY STORY!! Much of this Movie was filmed in the Atlanta area...and my younger sister is in several 'crowd shots' -- like at the beginning of the race. She and a friend went down often to the hotel where everyone was staying, and where 'the race' began, and 'hung out' during the day. I would ride down in the early evening to get her home for Family Dinner, in my customized Corvette. One day, I got a chance to chat with Hal Needham for a few minutes...and I told him about a REAL 'event' that happened to ME out in Texas a couple of years ago, and how I had gotten around BEHIND a State Trooper who was after me for speeding..!! It was in the middle of the night, and we had wide open highway. We hit speeds over 120 mph, running redlights and 'flying' thru small towns with 25 mph Speed Limits ... still at 100+ mph!! He was laughing constantly as I told him details of the "chase", and when I pulled up beside the Officer and waved...flipped of my vehicle lights (leaving just a set of aircraft landing lights on the front)...and drove away at over 160mph! Of course, the Movie Edition was 'different' in many ways -- like 2 sexy ladies in a Lambo -- and I never got caught! But when I saw the opening of the Movie I was Flattered that Hal and the writers had used my story in their block-buster hit! I did get invited to the "Wrap Party" where I actually got 'talk time' with many of the Wonderful actors...but did not know about the opening scene until I saw the Movie months later. {Hal had even expressed interest in using my car in some highway scenes in the Movie...but when they came back from California and the 'western phase' they had already reached their 'budget' and I never got into the Movie...

As a young kid I used to watch this intro again and again, gave me my love and passion for cars!!,! When i was at school someone's Dad drove up in a red one of these, i remember him firing it up vividly to this day, first off it sounded like an aeroplane with a lot of rushing wind sounds and then he turned it over and I hadn't heard a car sound like that ever before my hair stood on end. In hindsight he definitely had a custom exhaust as you could hear the Lambo for five minutes after it left ❤️❤️

00:30 to moment i fell in love with the Lamborghini Countach and everything Lamborghini have ever done ever since. One day I will own one, even if i have to cash in my entire pension at 65 and live, sleep, eat, breath & drive in for the last years of my life.

I have owned a few and even built my own Countach limo. THey are great except to drive... there is no visability behind you and people are always boxing you in to take pics. I used to set on the door seal and look over the roof to back it up.

This film... Last day of school term in 1982 or so, I was 7. Friend brought the VHS tape of it in and our teacher naively agreed to put it on for us. It lasted about 2 minutes beyond the intro before it was quickly switched off!

The reason it had the front wing was to meet the strict US DOT regulations on bumper height. Most owners have taken the front wings off so it's a very rare thing to see them on any more. I Love it with the gold wheels. Thanks.
