The new batteries are able to provide I higher amperage draw for a longer time which is why the r5c users are getting better run time and why the older batteries "lock out" modes. It is stupid that 24fps isn't available though. anything under 30fps should be an option on older batteries as well as the connection functionality to the mobile app

@@AnthonyGugliotta I was told by a Canon rep (Ontario) in tech terms that are above my head that the reason these frame rates are not available is because on the original R5, they were not being captured with a stacked BSE sensor. Everyone screamed for stacked BSE, so it is a case of be careful what you wish for. BTW, I've seen your other replies about not being able to get batteries in Canada. Hello, everyone. Complementing Anthony's excellent info. I am writing from Italy and I am a Wedding Photographer. I have purchased the new Canon R5MarkII and also in Italy the New Batteries are not available. I report for Photographers. I tested in a wedding the new Canon. Nothing to report outstanding for Af quality and Image quality. Problem encountered? Inserting the old batteries I was using in the R5 MKI everything works correctly, I repeat on the photographic side, the problem is that each LPE6NH battery does not last more than about 80 shots! Result: after about 10 consumed batteries I had to make up for it on the old R5 MKI...because by then I was almost out of batteries. Canon's behaviour is embarrassing, these are working tools used by those who make photography or video shooting their job and source of income. How is it possible to work in these conditions? ..my luck that I have a second camera body...but who can't afford it? Canon 👎

I tried capturing an airshow on my R5II with the old batteries. I definitely got more than 80 photos, but the new battery performance was significantly better. This all could be solved if they simply made more batteries available.

Let's talk about the price of the batteries in Italy, 109€. How can we buy more batteries at that price with a bag full of batteries paid 70€ that will be useless with the R5II. Crazy stuff.
@StefanoCatalani-rl6mgАй бұрын
80 shots it's way less than the minimum specs. Either the camera needs to be checked by your local PSC, or the batteries are at the end of their lifecycle, or you're doing something wrong.

i have the same problem, there is no Lp-E6P stock. the older batteries limit some of the functions even network functions are restricted. Not sure why they restrict net functions? So, you're stuck with one LP-E6P and when you use your older batteries you have limited functions. This is really a silly release strategy by Canon. Somehow, Canon always cripples their camera and this time it's battery related which a critical part. It kind of makes the camera useless... because of the battery limitation. I think they can allow some more functions to work especially with LP-E6NH.

While I agree with Canon's decision to upgrade to better batteries to make more powerful cameras, these are not a big enough improvement to justify all the annoyances of switching. There has to be a better solution. I wouldn't mind sacrificing the small form factor tbh.
@TigaWouldАй бұрын
This is step 1 for them improving it. It’s more than likely going to be chipset performances that optimize the battery performance overall. I wouldn’t doubt that in the next series of batteries and cameras, they will communicate more effectively and efficiently to power down the camera or features that aren’t being utilized to optimize the battery performance even further. It’s just a process that takes time for any manufacturer. But the truth about battery technology overall, is that the actual products used to make batteries hasn’t been improved in decades, so all companies are working with the materials that are available and attempting to optimize the existing technology using chips.

I was able to shoot 3600+ photos over a 6 hour period on Saturday and still had a bar or two left on the battery that came with the Mark 2. The 3 extra new batteries that I got from Adorama were left untouched in my camera bag. On a similar shooting day with my R5 I would’ve been halfway into my 2nd battery by the end of the day. That may not be a fair comparison since those old batteries have been used and reused quite a bit, but this first time shooting an event with the Mark 2 definitely eased my concern about this camera being a battery hog.

🔋🔋🔋🔋🔋🔋🔋🔋 Bro the old battery had it's limitations. Meaning if the battery is below 50% you would loose your continuous shooting feature (ie) the green H+ mode will no longer shoot in 12fps. If the new batteries solve that issue, I am all in. But if canon decides to raise the price of the battery, then it's going to be good. Already the lpe6nh is twice the price of the lpe6. Not supporting lpe6 batteries is a bad move. We all have atleast 2 of them from the 5d4 era.

I have 5 of the old batteries from my R6ii and R7 but they do not last forever so are starting to need replacing anyway. More annoying than not having all the features with the old battery is l cannot even get a thousand images from them but that is ok because they have a new battery available. Yes we all want our already ordered spare batteries but hopefully we will see them soon. I skipped the original R5 as it lacked features which l expected would be in the mark ii and are so l have very few complaints in fact the features are technically a little better than l expected. We hated the micro HDMI port but it is gone now so we find something else to complain about but all brands will give us something to complain about, me l am happy for the next 4 years.😀

I think its going to be the same route for Nikon and Sony. I am a Sony user and I do think Sony should have developed a newer and stronger battery starting with the a9iii. The 7.2v Z-battery they have now is still great but it won't be able to keep up once 8K/60fps is implemented into their new cameras or when they hit 240 fps burst shooting. Its for sure needed because Mirrorless cameras are sucking the life out of battery faster than ever before with all the features they have. Hopefully a 10v & 3,500 mAh capacity battery in the future. I know the grip will be bigger buts its very needed more than every today. It's just like smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S that has a 1,500 mAh battery in 2010. Now 2024, Galaxy S24 has a 4,500 mAh battery. That's 3x times the size to keep up these smartphones to last one day.

Unfortunatelly since cameras are more and more digital it is easy for brands to do these kinds of electronic limits to stuff, to force "brand loyalty" and the purchase of newer gear to replace perfectly working gear. This annoys me to no end, along with the long limitation on Sigma and Viltrox from building RF lenses (yes, I am a Canon user too). This sort of behaviour by a brand is what makes me consider seriously changing brands, and as such, at least on me, is generating the opposite of their intended effect.

@TigaWouldАй бұрын
But when enough batteries hit the market is it still a “cripple hammer”? You say this as if Sony didn’t limit 3rd party lens manufacturers from being able to completely utilize their FPS in the A1 or a9 series cameras. Or how Nikon doesn’t allow you to shoot above 20 FPS in raw format for the Z9 when it’s full capable of handling it. They all have some “cripple hammer” you just notice it or don’t because you either love the company or hate it and notice its flaws. When you have no emotional attachment to any of the systems you’ll recognize what those limitations are and rent the equipment you need to complete the job at hand. That’s what the pros do. 🙂 Edit: oh and don’t get me started on how Sony uses CF-Express type A cards. That really annoys me either way a 61 megapixel camera or a 50 megapixel camera that shoots 30FPS! Not to mention those cards are 2 and a half times the price of CF-Express type B cards and less than half the performance.

Everyone always assumes that everything can be fixed via firmware. People are not considering that previously these frame rates and functions were not being captured on the R5 1 with a stacked BSE sensor. What are 'lower specs'? Can you define this in engineering terms related to the camera? It is a completely different architecture with new power requirements. Compared to major components batteries are not high cost or high markup items. I don't think any reasonable conclusion sees Canon blocking frame rates to sell more batteries. THAT would be bonkers.

@@MicheletDiez I was told in terms over my head by a Canon rep that the issue with those frame rates vs the R5 is the stacked BSE sensor. You are assuming that there is some kind of intentional blocking going on because you think 30fps is a higher requirement than 24fps in terms of the overall technology and architecture which amounts to pure speculation. You don't know that. My point is that it is wildly improbable that Canon would intentionally block a very popular frame rate just to sell a few more batteries. Even if every R5 purchaser bought 5 new batteries it wouldn't register in Canon's bottom line. Canon is a corporation and exists for a bottom line aimed at appeasing investors - agreed. That doesn't automatically make them bad actors - or idiotic.

The new battery issue is unfortunate, and I’m sure that 24p will be unlocked at some point. That said, the batteries are NOT identical. You act like you read the voltage being the same on the back of the battery and that’s incorrect. The LP-E6NH is 7.2V and the LP-E6P is 8.4V. Written right on the back of the battery and a very substantial difference between them. There is over a 16% difference in potential energy and efficiency. The camera was clearly built from the ground up to exploit these benefits and operates above 7.2V for many shooting modes. The good news is that these batteries are compatible with the R6II, and R5. I haven’t tested in the R7 or original R6, but I believe there won’t be an issue. So the battery is designed to be backwards compatible. 24P being locked out is likely another Canon Japan omission and would not be the first time they left it off a camera upon initial release. Just be very loud and I’m sure they’ll somehow manage to make it work. LOL
@AnthonyGugliottaАй бұрын
No doubt the batteries are different, but when you read the text, the last line of my battery says 7.2V but the text is in Japanese. Reading it again, it also lists 8.4V but the text is also in Japanese. Perhaps this is the dual-operating voltage others have mentioned? I've read that discharge rate is another factor that's been improved, but it's mostly from people online guessing. The point is Canon isn't being very transparent, and as many people have pointed out; such a minor change has created quite the inconvenience. It would have been much more appreciated if the change was significant, instead of seeming like a halfway measure.

Yes keep complaining. KZbinrs are always so worried about speaking up cause they are to busy worrying about offending in hopes of working with Canon or getting free stuff. Canon is not anyone’s friend Canon is a Company that sells products and if something affects their sales you best believe they will do something about it. We the consumers need to take our power back by being patient and not purchasing everything every 5 minutes a new product comes out or at least until they perfect something better. I know that will never happen though.

Um I’m kinda confused 😕 You have thousands of dollars of lens equipment and camera but buying new batteries is a deal breaker for you? You can’t wait for more batteries and use your old camera before the new batteries arrive?
@mrsuperselenio5694Ай бұрын
So you are saying that it should become a norm to spent $500 to $1k on new batteries even though your already owned $700 woth of batteries are still in good working conditions but now you gotta throw those out and pay canon (again) to get back the same functionalities you had on your R5 with NH batteries?? IF you don't feel this is a scam, you are the reason companies keep getting away with robbing their customers. I bet you are an apple lover too

I feel like canon are going to get to a point where they release a flagship that doesn't even give you the option to remove the battery. they will probably just have a build in Lithium battery that you can only charge with some proprietary special canon usb-c charger 😂

Pray to God that won't happen that would be horrendous 😭

And that’s why I’ve stopped calling them CANon and started calling them CANTon! Because I just Can’t with Canon. I’ve been shooting canon For 1,362,554 years, 18 months, 379 days, 25 hours, 62 minutes and 352 seconds and I’ve never been so applauded that they won’t acknowledge my first world issues. Between this and them blocking the full frame RF 3rd party lenses with auto focus, I’m so upset I’ll be finding a different brand. Yeah I could use an adapter, but I shouldn’t have too! The adapter works fine, but I need native RF full frame 3rd party lenses to go out and shoot pictures of my back porch and give it an artistic feel so people Will think I’m a photographer genius! Then I’ll talk about how I only shoot with natural light and carry my camera everywhere so people will talk to me. 😂
@mattmastrandrea3965Ай бұрын
My guy, don't give them ideas!
@TigaWouldАй бұрын
@@mattmastrandrea3965they won’t. They had to place a different set of chips in this battery to maximize the capabilities of the system. The last generation of batteries was an issue and the feedback was given to Canon from their pros. So they came out with a new battery (which right now is harder to produce) with a new chip that optimizes battery life and people are still complaining for some reason. To most, this seems like a small change, but it’s a major change! People who are using this battery in older mirrorless cameras are claiming a major boast almost doubling the battery life and capacity (like stated in the video). So it’s just going to take time to build up the inventory.
@mlai2546Ай бұрын
It's how Canon forces you to purchase new batteries. No different than them blocking 3rd party lenses. 😅

Went to Samy's camera to try and buy 2 extra batteries and they weren't about to sell me any at all cause I didn't buy the camera directly from them. They then relented and only sold me 1 battery. But they were being pretty strict about 1 battery limit.

@@AnthonyGugliotta Now that is strange, hoping they make a firmware update to at least allow 24 fps. It is odd they didn't expect this to be very popular. Hoping you get a new battery soon!

can i use the MARK 2 batter on the R5 mark1?
@The_WarL0rd_WayАй бұрын
I was able to get an extra battery when I purchased mine R5 MK II. I also have the R7 and R6 MK II so I get what you are saying about mixed batteries. It is weird that the old batteries change the menu and lock out features. You would think it would just limit the time you have to do all that. Is the firmware programed to detect older batteries and lock out features? Maybe a money grab by Canon to make everyone buy new batteries? I smell fuckery!
@iliaskapatosАй бұрын
So I am lucky to own two of the new batteries. But you can also add a external powerbank and film the whole day with only one of the new batteries.
