Another side note, if you think about it, this is kind of part of the Lindholm, Kuzmenko trade. As the Canucks paid that price for Lindholm, as well as to free up 5.5 million in cap. This is what the team chose to use that cap on. If it works out, that trade will look much better in the coming years.

As a Bruins fan, I never quite warmed up to him, especially after witnessing some frustrating moments like temper tantrums and a seeming lack of motivation on and off the ice. However, I can't deny his talent and the contributions he made to B's during his time here. Hopefully, this change of scenery will be a positive for him and the new fans will appreciate what he brings to the table. Plus, he will be closer to his family! Wishing him and Nucks' all the best!

B) this guy disappears for large stretches every year C) comparing him to burroughs is something only a person would say that has never seen Jake play (tis sheer folly...you will learn to hate him for large stretches of the season & love him about 15% of the time) D) If he doesn't get put on the line he wants with the line mates he wants be prepared to see him ask for a trade, the kid is a big baby. Thanx for signing him, the fans, his team mates & organization frankly just got sick of wondering which JD we would get each & every game, no heart.

It is said that JDB disappears for large stretches of the season. That is only true if, as the commenter, you go blind for large stretches of said season. Jake is ALWAYS contributing; he is always where he should be, offensively and defensively. When he’s not making it onto the scoring sheet it’s because he’s he’s not getting puck luck and you will be falling off the edge of your seat screaming “SO F*#%ING CLOSE!!!” Jake is a gamer- he is always working to be in the right spot and get the best outcome. He is not a tough guy or a rat or a pest, but he gets under the opponents skin because he’s always creating high danger chances and he’s always in the way of their efforts to do the same. Any talk of him pouting and not staying in the game comes from when he was eating a steady stream of s#!t from Bruce Cassidy (the man who drove David Krejci out of the NHL and back to Czechia for a season and would only come back b/c Cassidy was fired. I’m NOT saying Cassidy is a bad guy a la Mike Babcock, I am saying his voice has a limited shelf life in a given room). You are also going to love watching Heinen- he’s the most unassuming looking guy but he goes into the boards and comes out with the puck EVERY TIME! And if Forbort is finally healthy, you will have gotten a strong stay at home D-man who is a dedicated shot blocker and a pillar of the PK. I will miss these guys on my B’s squad but I’ve always been a ‘Nucks fan too and these signings will get me that much more invested. Best of luck for a special ‘24-‘25 season!

Thanks for the thoughtful and insightful comment! I’m excited to see what DeBrusk can do alongside elite offensive centers like Pettersson and Miller. Tocchet will hold him accountable, but is a coaches player so I don’t foresee any issues between him and DeBrusk. A change of scenery could really help DeBrusk come out the gates. As for Forbort, I believe the organization has communicated exactly what they expect out of him, a solid, steady presence in the bottom pairing. If he stays healthy, I’m excited to see him with DeSharnais.

To say you aren't going to pay a guy 5.5 to play on your third line is old thinking. That's becoming more and more the norm and DeBrusk no matter where you play him produces like a 3rd liner. He'll score you 20ish goals he'll get your 40-50 points. He's also learned in the last couple of years how to play defensive hockey. He's a good back checker and he'll be one of your better penalty killing wingers. If that all sounds like a 3rd liner to you congrats. He's a third liner who's been over slotted the last few years because of lack of better options. And that's fine for Boston they play a unique scheme where it's more about defense and possession anyhow. Jakes got speed to burn and maybe with the right center his production will elevate. But I wouldn't expect it to be much. He's played with David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron and only had limited success. His ceiling is 30 goals 60 points and I'm not sure he'll ever reach it. I'll also tell you "Drives possession" isn't true of DeBrusk. He doesn't keep the puck in the offensive zone effectively at all. He's not a great cycle player, he isn't great at winning board battles. He's good at carrying to puck with speed in a straight line. Put an obstacle in his path? Slows way down. He's not shifty at all he's a straight line player. He can help you with stretching the zone for sure. If you want to run fly plays to get quick zone exits he can do that for you.

You are expecting an average 40 point, 20 goal scorer to be a 1st or 2nd line player? I guess, that's ok since they tried PDG and Suter there, but they didn't get $5mil and how did they do? LOL.
